I know there will be a lot of posts, but I had to. He was genius. We will never see his like again. I am heartbroken.

(37,748 posts)Give it a day or so, and some half-wit will come along DU with "I hate to be the one to say this, but he wasn't very good..."
Seems no good artist can die without the I Need Attention posters, and unfortunately I don;t think Prince's passing will be any different.

(28,340 posts)now. Very apt, and sadly you are right.
On CNN they are showing people outside his home or studio right now including one burly middle-aged bearded guy who keeps taking off his glasses to wipe his tears.

(37,748 posts)My favorite year-- the summer of 1980 when I discovered Prince and the Runaways. They were my introduction to rock and roll and my introduction to high school and being a teen. Hard to separate any single one aspect of those easy days from the others-- they all seem to be one "reality," each's existence predicated on the others.

The news reports say he was sick with the flu this week. This is just sad.

Heartbreaking for his lovely wife/life partner and his entire family. They must be devastated.

(15,330 posts)but I had no idea what a absolutely masterful guitar player he was until the Super Bowl halftime show he did.
Reminded me of when I was a kid. I had a couple of Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention albums. Apostrophe and Overnight Sensation, so I got tickets to go see him in concert. For about the first 10 minutes, he just stood there playing this masterful guitar solo, and I sat there with my mouth agape
