And it is my sincere hope that this will lead to the Republican Party paying a steep political price this November, and into the future.
At this point I think one of two things, and possibly both will happen. Either the Republican Party or Hate Radio will die. It makes no difference to me. I will gladly dance on either grave, but I think my most joyful dance will be on the tomb of Hate Radio. It really has done so much to destroy any semblance of reasoned and respectful discourse that ever existed in this country. It has done damage at the national level for sure, but where its really hurt is in our local communities and neighborhoods.
Weve all had to deal with these idiots. They proudly advertise their ignorance in multiple settings. At the local PTA meeting, at the Little League End of Year Banquet, at the Home Owners Association Meeting, at the Parish Council
hell, even standing in line at the grocery store or at 7/11. You can tell theyre a Faux-Bot or a Rush-Bot the minute they open their mouths. The use of the term Democrat Party is just one dead giveaway.
While the majority of us look askance at these idiots and roll our eyes at their mendacity, there is no doubt that they disrupt our lives with myopic opinions on everything from whether or not the 2ND Place Team will get a trophy at the end of the year, or whether or not we need to have a salad option at the School Cafeteria. Of course, each interruption or disagreement comes with the self-righteous smugness of only someone whose crazy-assed beliefs are reaffirmed constantly
day after day
hour after hour
week after week on their favorite radio or TV "News" show.
Thats what Hate Radio has done to us on a local and neighborhood level, but what its done to benefit the Republican Party is almost immeasurable. That is, until this current Presidential Primary season. The Teabaggers pealed back the edges, but Trump and Cruz have yanked off the mask. What you hear on the Republican Campaign trail and in their debates is exactly what you hear every day on hundreds of AM stations all over this country.
For 30 years, the Republican Party has been able to maintain the perception that they were a serious party with reasonable policy positions, while Hate Radio did the dirty work for them.
Nationally, they would give the impression that they were just aw shucks genteel grandfatherly figures without a racist, bigoted, misogynistic, greedy bone in their bodies. At the same time, their true racist, hateful, bigoted, misogynistic, greedy attacks were carried out by the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, Faux News, and the hundreds of cookie-cutter hate talkers that cropped up all over the country.
Before this campaign, Republicans could fly under the radar. If Rush said something completely disgusting, like calling a young woman a slut, Republicans could either say; well, he doesnt speak for the Republican Party, or, hes just an entertainer.
Trump and Cruz have changed all that. The hate, vitriol, ignorance, racism, homophobia, women-hating, drown the gubmint in a bathtub shtick that you hear on Hate Radio has now been mainlined into the veins of the Republican Party.
Republicans have a daunting choice this fall. Embrace the crazy of Talk Radio and suffer a staggering defeat, or, ignore the crazy of Talk Radio and suffer a staggering defeat.
And they have no one to blame but themselves.
