Omaha Steve has been wonderful to my wife the last couple of days, and I thought I'd do the same for him.

Have him start a thread about something that happened that made you very happy. I'm sure we'll get some replies about others having things happen that made them happy in return. I'll start here.

Once upon a time I married a wonderful woman. I have no clue how this happened, but sometimes even idiots like me get lucky. We didn't have any money and only a few days to have anything that approached a honeymoon, so we went to Gallup, New Mexico, the heart of the Navajo Nation and close to the Hopi.

She had make reservations at a motel there, and they treated us like trash, not giving us the room we had reserved, so we just up and left and we were getting a little down because our fun time was so short and things weren't working out so well.

We went down the road a little ways and saw this dump called the El Rancho Inn. Something about the place just drew us there. From the outside it looked like a roach infested version of a turn of the century log built hotel.

What a surprise was in store for us. The place was rich in old western movie lore, having been the residence for dozens of the actors and actresses during the thirties and forties; two stories full of memories. They treated us the way you would like to be treated as newlyweds, gave us a four room suite and even pulled a loveseat in front of their massive fireplace so we could sit there alone and fall in love all over again.

The only other thing that went wrong during our short stay was the movie we went to. It truly sucked. It was 'The English Patient'. Other than that, the trip is one of my happiest memories.
