'RIP, little buddy': Police mourn passing of squirrel with his own Twitter account; followers tweet

He liked granola bars, buffalo-flavored sunflower seeds and traffic cops, but someone or something apparently didn’t like an Omaha squirrel with his own Twitter account, @OPDSquirrel.

Officer Michael Bossman of the Omaha Police Department announced Tuesday on Twitter that the squirrel was found dead near Central Police Headquarters downtown, where he was a frequent visitor. The chubby-cheeked little fur-ball has buried his last acorn, climbed his last tree and husked his last nut.

“We are sad to announce that @OPDSquirrel has been found dead in the parking lot,” Bossman announced on Twitter. “We are not investigating.”
