Joey Meeks pleas guilty
Attorneys file plea agreement in case of Joey Meek, friend of Dylann Roof
Court documents filed by attorneys in the case of Joey Meek show that the friend of alleged Emanuel AME Church shooter Dylann Roof is prepared to plead guilty on charges of making false statements to federal officials and concealing knowledge of a crime in relation to last Junes shooting.
Meek was arrested last fall and originally pled not guilty to charges that he willfully and knowingly made false, fictitious, and fraudulent statements to FBI investigators. If convicted on both charges, Meek would face a possible eight years in prison five years for lying to investigators and three years for concealing information as well as a fine of up to $500,000 for both charges.
According to the plea agreement filed Monday, his sentence could be reduced providing that Meek cooperates with the government and provides substantial assistance in the investigation or prosecution of another person. As a part of the plea agreement, Meek agrees to cooperate fully with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and may be subject to a polygraph examination. Meek could be asked to testify or serve as a witness in Roof's case.
