Big Pharma's Massive Price-Gouging Campaign

"When did you become aware of the obscene prices the pharmaceutical industry is charging for drugs? For many it was when a smirking Martin Shkreli, founder of Turing Pharmaceuticals, testified on the Hill in February about his price hike of the antiparasitic drug Daraprim from $13.50 to $750, after which he called lawmakers "imbeciles" in a tweeted goodbye.

"For others it was the roll-out of Gilead Sciences hepatitis C drug Sovaldi in 2014 at $84,000 for a 12-week course of treatment...

"Pharma is fighting back. Its lobbying groups, PhRMA, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America and the Biotechnology Innovation Organization, or BIO. have launched a Washington, DC-focused campaign to keep lawmakers from legislating away its profit party...."

And they are spamming the Internet with an army of trolls making weak-kneed excuses for Big Pharma's abuses, and attacking non-toxic holistic health alternatives.

They can (and did, for Medicare Part D) buy congress with promises of contributions and after-congress employment for members of congress and staff.

As long as congress is corrupt, big pharma will win.

. . .that offered proof about internet trolls. So, the author should have left that out. But, hard to find fault with the rest of the motive. The litany of gouging in that article is pretty depressing.

Drug prices and pharmaceutical industry practices continue to be a big issue, especially in the US, where little has been done on the legislative side.

Alas, it is hard to take the OP seriously, as it also advocates for Big Placebo's scam "treatments." Any price for those is price gouging at its worst.
