(269,054 posts)I'm watching the French Open matches that I missed earlier today.
I turned them off last night - can't bare them - Rove, Walker, that asshole from Virginia - maybe it has to get worse before it gets better but they can gloat without me watching.

(62,325 posts)a Corporate funded propaganda machine. I remember the gloating after Bush stole the second election and could not even bear to hear his voice, even for a second as I flipped the channels. Fortunately we have so many other choices now.

(269,054 posts)It was unbearable but DU kept me going.
Looks like Reagan won. Maybe I'll think differently by weekend.
I'm watching the French Open

(62,325 posts)media has ignored the very important win for Democrats who gained control of the Senate. So Walker's 'win' doesn't mean what it meant in 2010 when they took control of the State Senate as well as the Governorship. He is now handicapped and will have a far more difficult time getting his, well he Koch Brothers', agenda to sail through as he was able to do before.
We didn't lose, we won, we cut off his power. But I bet the media is ignoring that most important defeat for Republicans.
I love the French Open, thanks for reminding me!

(269,054 posts)Remember that upstate New York seat in the special election a while back.

(62,325 posts)they had succeeded or not. I am a coward when it comes to bad news!
But it means that the protests worked, that Walker has his hands tied, so his 'victory' is not so much of a victory as it was in 2010, and the people did not wait until November, they got it done now.
O do remember the upstate seat, in Dist 23 I believe. That was a real victory as the seat had not gone to a Dem in anyone's living memory. But they did ignore it mostly, you are correct.

(81,321 posts)I'm not THAT masochistic!
We had company last night for dinner - NEVER was I so glad to be busy with other stuff when I'd ordinarily be watching the news.
After the extended and very pleasant evening, I didn't even turn on Rachel Maddow. And usually, if I'm tired and I don't feel like watching much, or going through the recording of the whole MSNBC evening, I at least catch Rachel. Not last night. We went straight to the "Star Trek" DVDs. Probably will do the same tonight. I just don't need it.

(3,491 posts)big money that won Walker the recall. 27% of Union workers voted for Walker, shit no wonder we lost. Ed is pissed at that.

(17,066 posts)The gloating is over (I couldn't watch that part either) and I find the rest to be watchable, although not pleasant.
who are "religious" and anti-abortion, anti-women, and anti-social programs.
Or maybe they were the "special unions" that Walker exempted from his purge.

(2,515 posts)The one who told CNN democracy died?
BTW he was on Randi Rhodes radio show today, very impressive guy - a stay at home dad w/two daughters.
Anyway, several employees at work were in tears LAUGHING at the video, playing it over and over. There must have been 10 people huddled around the screen laughing.
It was disgusting to witness.

(1,916 posts)I wouldn't normally watch something called The Military Channel, but while channel-surfing, I happened on some great shows, and since I'm a WWII buff, I watch it quite a bit now. It's what the History Channel used to be before the HC started having programs about swamps.

(1,916 posts)It was in an-depth look at the lead-up to various wars and conflicts, including lots of info that I had never known before. In that time slot now (i.e., 10 pm Tuesday nights) is a different new series called "Narrow Escapes of WWII" -- also very well done. So far, it has included in-depth looks at immediate aftermath of the Doolittle Raid, as well as the story of a company (??) of black soldiers during the Battle of the Bulge who got unexpectedly put in extreme danger, and some of whom were subjected to grotesque torture/murder by the SS when they were captured.
Another good series is "Nazi Collaborators," -- on at various times during the week, that showcases people, including leadership, in various countries in Western and Eastern Europe, who cooperated with the Nazis. Very in-depth. Even some of the tactical shows are surprisingly interesting -- e.g., shows about planes, tanks, ammunition, etc.
