CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A raid that uncovered a bunker full of firearms on a property in Cleveland County is another sign that anti-government rhetoric is on the rise, law enforcement experts said ...

Prosecutors have called Reuben DeHaan a "sovereign citizen" and said he didn't believe that he was required to pay taxes. Attorneys filed charges against him for tax evasion. A search of his property April 21 turned up about 80 guns and a fortified underground bunker.

Federal prosecutors filed additional charges on April 22 and said some of the guns were illegal. DeHaan's attorney said his client is what is commonly known as a “prepper" who built the bunker to prepare for economic or social government collapse. She admitted that some of DeHaan's behavior was unusual but said it doesn't make all his actions illegal ...

DeHaan claims that because he is a minister, he does not have to pay income tax, according to documents ...

Multi-national corporations and billionaires evade taxes everyday.

Sounds like the Government is just being a bully to this citizen.

Yes not paying your taxes is wrong. But the law is not enforced equally. And raiding this guys home and taking his property is unconstitutional not paying taxes is not cause for searching a person's home

Their rights violated because you disagree with their views?

Sovereignty of the individual is what this country was founded upon. That we are all kings and queens with equal rights and no Person has a right to tread on your rights and no Person has a right to tread on my rights.

Now we do agree to live in a constitutional republic when we live in this country and agree that the Government has the right to tax the citizens

But one could also argue that our taxes are being embezzled by corrupt crony politicians doing the bidding of the megawealthy and corporations. Hence not paying our taxes can be justified because they will be used for corrupt and deadly ends.

We have the right to be secure from unreasonable search and seizure. Not paying ones taxes is not a reason for a search and seizure of ones property.

So it is not unreasonable. I'm assuming the law was followed, and a judge did sign the warrant for the search of the home and the property to be seized. However, upon searching the property illegal items were discovered (some of the firearms), the officers would be justified in seizing that other property as well.

Ministers do indeed have to pay taxes on their income, a fact that confounds many on the right and the left.

Mr. DeHaan will soon learn a lesson that the Bundy Bunch is currently getting schooled on.
