UPDATE: Florida Governor Rick Scott Officially Defies Justice Department, Vows To Continue Voter Purge

In a letter sent tonight, Florida Governor Rick Scott said the state will continue to purge registered voters from the rolls despite the Department of Justice’s warning that the effort is illegal. The Miami Herald reports, “the letter all but dares the Justice Department to sue Florida for allegedly violating the 1965 Voting Rights Act and the 1993 National Voter Registration Act.” You can read the full letter here. Seriously, can't they go in and arrest him or something? A stern talking to is not going to do it.

Scott's directives, they will be in violation of federal law. Kind of like if your boss instructs you to violate U.S. export law, you do and are caught and charged--you go to jail, not your boss.

they are the ones in charge, met and said they would discontinue the purges. The State has no responsibility/business in this. (Interview on Rachel show.)

The CESs are independantly elected. They can tell Scott to fuck off. The counties dont have the money to tackle a legal battle with the Feds. If Scott attempts to sue the counties, Im sure the Feds will handle the legal defense. Scotts statements are just a bunch of hot air... like lil Kim from N Korea threating to fire ICBMs at the US, or Ajad (whatever his name is) from Iran threatening to destroy a US carrier. Simply bluster intended to fire up the base, with no probability of being able to carry it out.

The letter all but dares the JD to sue Florida. I think he's hoping the JD will back off - or Obama will call off the JD. I bet if the JD goes after him - the Repugs and all their talking heads -en mass - will say that Obama is doing this for partisan politics.

It's alright if the Repugs do something for partisan politics - but heaven forbid the JD does the right thing - the Repugs will use it against Obama.

Ten of thousands of people falsely register is Florida so they can fraudulently vote? Isn't that kind of silly when you think about it for more than 10 seconds?
These Anti-American assholes are so blatant. It's like those Supreme Court justices going to partisan fund raisers and then daring anyone to stop them.
They don't even try to hide it anymore - they want a permanent majority and unbridled power.

I hope they get a ruling that says individuals affected can sue.

maybe the Justice Dept. can get a couple Floridians and join with them in suing Scott.
