First place winner and May's contest host is Atman with the beautiful Lilly Inverted.
Second place is mnhtnbb with the unique Undersea.
and in third is the awesome Manzano Lake, Manzano N.M. by womanofthehills.
Host choice is
Mira's My shower companion
and Water Color by postatomic.
Both of which fit the theme in very different ways but oh so well and reached for the creativity I was
hoping for. Course I would have to name everyone that entered if I thought on it even a bit so will
say that you are ALL winners in my book.
Feel free to check out the Photogroup if you haven't all ready and join us for May's contest. Its all yours Atman.

(31,408 posts)Congrats to Atman and womanofthehills (and me ) and to all the other photographers for the diverse and unique
entries!
The story behind Undersea is that one morning--at breakfast in the restaurant that is built out over the water where we stayed
on Bonaire in March to celebrate my Medicare birthday--the waiter asked us if we had fed the fish when he was clearing
the table. Uh, no. He broke off a piece of muffin and tossed it in the water. Immediately there was a swarm of fish.
I caught a school of Blue tang with my little Canon point and shoot (always in my hand bag) shooting from our seat
down maybe 5-8 feet through the water. A couple of days later I brought my better camera with me to breakfast, tossed
some leftover English muffin, and that's when I got Undersea. Total serendipity. I am a Pisces, after all, with my
March birthday, so I like to think the fish were coming to help me celebrate!

(31,464 posts)I'm stunned! My first entry into a DU photo contest! I thought the other entries were so strong I'd be lucky to make it out of the first round. Congratulations to all the entrants. Great, beautiful stuff!
My two choices were also Shower Companion and Watercolor!
I guess I have to think up a theme...and figure out how to run a DU photo contest. Any tips would be appreciated.

(31,408 posts)and you can see it here http://www.democraticunderground.com/103649550
You can post an OP in the photography group and ask for suggestions for themes, or put up a poll
in the photo group if you have several ideas and want some feedback, or just choose something.
The first time I had to run a contest I went back and looked at how the submissions thread for a contest was constructed by one of the long time members
and also how the preliminary polls were organized which made it much easier than trying to figure it out without something I could visually
copy.

(8,039 posts)free to pm. There is also a little how to pinned to the top of the group along with a rules thing to help guide you. If you have something you always wanted to see but didn't that is a good place to start on ideas. The upside of being host is you have the last word on your contest. The down side is you have to host the contest. Some of us, like me, say second place is the real winner. Makes me even happier to find out you are a first timer! Feel free to pm me if you need help. I do and am checking in regular through the searching for replacement value and dealing with insurance and contractors. May be on the later side of the day/night mostly. Most important enjoy your win and running the contest.
Glad you liked those too, was a very hard contest for the voters.

(31,464 posts)It truly is inverted. I took the photo at a small pond near my house. Obviously the water was as smooth as glass. I downloaded the pics onto my Mac and something just seemed odd about the photo. So I rotated it 180 degrees and EUREKA! That's all the "post processing" I did to it. It's framed and hanging like that on my living room wall.
Thanks again for the votes! I think I have a fun theme for next month.
