(23,272 posts)Whenever I get a chance to read his comics, I'm always amazed at how insightful he is every single time. And then I inevitably worry, there don't seem to be any others who are working at Trudeau's level. Who will replace him? The political cartoonists like Luckovich and Horsey are equally as savvy but they don't do the storylines like Trudeau.
Really masterful stuff.

And, "if you report rape, your career is almost certainly over."
The Pentagon estimates that 80-90% of rapes and sexual assault on women in the military go unreported.

(423 posts)...she never reported it when she was raped while serving in the army because:
1) she was drunk
2) she was alone with the man when he raped her
She explained that it would be fruitless to report the rape, because her female C.O. had warned her when she arrived: "To avoid being raped, never get drunk and never allow yourself to be alone with a man."
In fact, my friend didn't even call it rape. When she described the incident, I told her she had just described rape, and she said, "No, because I was drunk, and we were alone. I shouldn't have done either one." (That's when she told me about her C.O.'s warning.)

(31,011 posts)When I was in, I was lucky. But the harrassment was horrible. We couldn't report it. If we did, we were weak and the last thing you were allowed to be in the Army was weak. We had to suck it up and take it.
Not only that, we had to work twice as hard as the men just to prove we had the "balls". I use that word because that's the word they used to us.
I've been out for some time now and it shames me that not much has changed in all these years.

(23,278 posts)As an election judge,I worked the Democratic primaries alongside the Republicans.
There were two Army active duty home on leave-both female soldiers returning from Afghanistan.
They were bothered when they saw the Republican primary ballot, and came over after they had voted.I told them I was glad they made it home OK,and related a little about my son's multiple deployments.I gently told them the VA has come a long way since 2008 in the care of female vets... and that people are seeing what being female in a war zone is actually like.
"There was nothing on The Republican ballot about Vets".
I told them they were free to vote their conscience in the general election.
