... Rodgers is accused of killing Gulf Shores sailor Brad Gunther. His abandoned sailboat was found near Fort McRee. His body uncovered almost two weeks later.

Rodgers declared himself a sovereign citizen, not bound by the rules or laws of any state and wants to represent himself in his murder trial. He said he didn’t want to be represented by any “free” attorney. The judge asked a series of questions ranging from his education, health and mental capacity and reluctantly granted his request to represent himself.

Rodgers said he had been diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic as a teenager but says that was a mistake and has been off medication since 2007 ...
