Mrs. 1SBM and I went out for dinner last night. As we waited in the bar to be seated, there was a guy trumpeting the greatness of trump to whoever was listening (most were not and those who were, were really amazed that this guy was talking so loud ... and crazy). As he spouted on, he got up and began walking in our direction, talking about how trump was winning big with every demographic. When he got just about to my wife and me, Mrs. 1SBM reached under the table and gave my knee a, now, familiar, "Please don't engage this guy!"; but, he stop short of us, and began talking/shouting at the couple seating next to us.
As the trump got hit his groove, one of the couple, simply, said "How? ... How is trump going to do any of that?"
The trump guy rattled off how "hugely successful" and "great" trump was going to make America, again.
Then, the other half of the couple said, "That's not telling us How he's going to do any of it."
The trump guy became angry, and started shouting about how trump would "fix the country that that Muslim (President) Obama broke."
To which other people started chanting the single word, "How?"
When the trump guy started shouting profanities, the restaurant Manager came over and escorted him out ... to the laughter and cheers of most of the other patrons.
I dawned on me, the single most effective rebuttal to a trump supporter is not to debate the issues or respond by telling anyone that trump is a racist/misogynist/islamophobe/fraud/narcissistic asshole; but, that single word, "How?" ... Of course it will not sway the trump supporter; but, it WILL get those around him/her to think.

(26,117 posts)Great idea - just ask "How?" and wait for them to self-implode.
On edit: I'm gonna go post that question to every Trump post I see on Twitter. In fact, I wonder if there's a hashtag for that already. Hmm...
another edit: yes there is: https://twitter.com/hashtag/HowTrump - now it just needs to start trending.

(31,849 posts)But let's take it a step father ... See Cyberswede's Post #1 and let's make it so.
Now ... how exactly does the twitter work?
ChisolmTrailDem
(9,463 posts)interested in Hillary? In the search box enter her name or enter #HillaryClinton and you'll get a ton of Hillary tweets to peruse. Like quilting? Same thing: #quilting. A keyword with a # preceding it is what is called a "hashtag" and using them helps tweeps ("tweep", a person who tweets) organize and find different topics and interests and people and, most famously for Twitter, breaking news. Twitter also is a great way to take the pulse of the population here in the U.S. and right around the world.
Did you find an interesting web page about Hillary or quilting? Copy the web page title and the link address. Then go back to Twitter and click on the TWEET button, which will open a text input box. Paste the title and the link into this box and include any relevant comment and/or hashtags in the space of 140 characters (links are truncated at 23 characters). To find relevant hashtags, do a search for #HillaryClinton or #quilting, and see what additional hashtags others are using.
Once you have composed your tweet, hit send and it will appear on your profile page and on the search result pages for the hashtags you used. So, if you tweeted to #HillaryClinton, you tweet will show up in a search for that hashtag, along with all the others being tweeted.
The rest is just practice. I used to avoid Twitter but now I love it and I use it for business promotion.

Details are not that important. It's like the Buddhist 8 fold path. Step one - right view.
Consider my plan for Kansas taxes.
Here's how they worked in the past
2008
bottom 20% - 9.2%
next 20% - 8.6%
top 4% - 8.3%
top 1% - 7.1%
2015
bottom 20% - 11.1%
next 20% - 9.4%
top 4% - 7.1%
top 1% - 5.1%
My proposal
bottom 20% - 4.5%
next 20% - 6.0%
top 4% - 9.3%
top 1% - 9.6%
My proposal produces the same amount of revenue as rates of 2015. Now you might want details and say "How?" How do I get to those rates?
My answer is - ignorance and apathy. That is, I don't know and I don't care.
The first simple step to doing something - decide you want to do it. Once you get the legislature on board, once they all take the "Koch pledge" then they can hammer out the details and they can make adjustments as time goes on.
Now, as I play Devil's Advocate. One might say the same for Trump. How will he get things done? How will he make America great? First we will do it by electing a great President - which is Trump. He will get things done the way he always gets things done - because he knows the art of the deal. The same way he built that park in New York after the government failed. The same way he won the Republican nomination with all the Republican establishment and the liberal media against him. The same way he became a billionaire, because he knows how to win.

And yes, that three letter word is devastating, and not only to Drumpf and his merry band of low level drunken blowhards. Most politicians, and I include both Democratic frontrunners, would be reduced to sputtering by that little word.
I do hope the blowhard at the bar retreated somewhere to sleep it off and you enjoyed your dinner.

Wrong, if I just made it, then how could it turn into a crowd laughing and jeering at you?
1StrongBlackMan: Wait what, that doesn't make any sense!
Just then a crowd spontaneously appeared and everyone started alternatively laughing at 1StrongBlackMan and clapping at nothing but with a terrifying intensity. An eagle named "good posting" began to attack his face and eyes, driving him from the room.

The guest offered, they should have pointed out ... STATED ... that he didn't answer the question and that all he did was talk around it.
I wish the media would take their role seriously and answer the question, once, twice, and then say, "We asked you 'How" three times, and you have yet to answer the question. We'll ask you one more time, and if you talk around the question again, no more coverage for you."
I know that won't happen ... But a Brother can still dream.

(18,186 posts)a cocaine or methamphetamine rush. Tweaking on Trump as it were. In their own little world.
They have an entire vocabulary surrounding their "man" and appear to just want the nation to install Trump and dispense with the pesky election already.
It's Waaaaaaay early in the game, as veteran election watchers will verify. Anything can happen from now to November, but the poor sots who are addicted to The Donald are so deluded by their "drug" they sound like a bunch of mean frat boys, and not like adults deciding the leader of the US. They are so pathetic, I feel sorry for all of them, truly. It's gotta HURT to be that stupid.
Some of the comments I read by Donald supporters betray their complete lack of concern for the future, but they are high-fiving each other today like they have REALLY accomplished something. You have to feel sorry for these deluded people, and they ARE highly deluded.
Thanks for this anecdote. It made me feel good to read your words.

(17,205 posts)But ultimately, the answer is simply "by saying it is so." It is the "Mission Accomplished" mentality. Those who look to the Leader (or the Expert) to tell them what to think are not likely to dispute anything he says. And after all, the concept of making America "Great Again" presupposes both a) that it once was great, and b) that it is not so now. Asking how that will be accomplished is equivalent to asking how we will know when we "win" the War on Terrorism, or Drugs, or the crusade of your choice.
