(188 posts)Before the launch there were statements that due to the launch profile that they didn't expect to recover the stage. Either it was going to break up or not have enough fuel for a soft landing. That's gotta be a huge boost to the program.

(2,212 posts)The SpaceX staff at first are upset because the intense light of the reentry rockets appeared to indicate an explosion or other mishap. Once the rocket motors shut off, the situation becomes clear and the staff just erupts!

(62,276 posts)The brightness of the engines looked like it hit and exploded, but nope, when their breaths let out and the chants went up I knew it succeeded.

(26,355 posts)This was a tough one. The Falcon 9 was hauling a heavy satellite, so it had to come in for the landing fast and hot - twice as fast as the last one, and with three engines running to do the hoverslam instead of the usual one. Still stuck the landing!
