Confederate statue site disputed (KY)

In .. the .. dispute over the .. Confederate monument near the University of Louisville, a lawyer .. claims .. the 121-year-old statue is on state property.

... Thomas McAdam, representing a group that includes the Sons of Confederate Veterans, made the claim Thursday in an amended complaint .. in Jefferson Circuit Court.

The .. dispute erupted after U of L President James Ramsey and Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer announced .. that the city and U of L would remove the monument situated on a triangle of land .. in front of U of L's Belknap Campus. The announcement came shortly after Ricky L. Jones, a professor and chairman of Pan-African Studies at U of L, wrote a column .. urging removal of the monument ..

A group including Congressional hopeful Everett Corley, political activist Ed Springston and the Sons of Confederate Veterans filed suit .. to block the removal and obtained a temporary restraining order. A hearing .. is scheduled May 25 ...
