http://www.forbes.com/sites/peterlipson/2016/05/05/alleged-medical-expert-mike-adams-attacks-respected-cancer-doctor/#999095d6a3ac"When it comes to explaining medical science and exposing dangerous medical scams and practices, the Science-Based Medicine blog is tops (full disclosureI was one of the early bloggers at the site and Im personally a fan). The team of bloggers are well-recognized doctors, researchers and communicators, many from top institutions. Dr. David Gorski, the managing editor, is a highly respected breast cancer surgeon and researcher at Karmanos Cancer Center, a nationally recognized NIH Comprehensive Cancer Center. Steve Novella, the founder of the blog, is an Yale neurologist, well-known for helping educate the public and other doctors about science and medicine.
Naturally, this puts these folks in the crosshairs from time to time. Im not nearly as prolific as either of them, and I receive a respectable volume of hate mail. Ive had critics try to pad online doctor rating sites with negative reviews. But Im busy, Im well-respected, and Im good at what I do. And, importantly, Im in private practice, which gives me a great deal of freedom to say what I want.
While Ive had some pretty unpleasant run-ins with some pretty crazy people, nothing compares to what Dr. David Gorski appears to be going through. One of Gorskis frequent targets of criticism is a guy named Mike Adams who fancies himself some sort of Health Ranger. I dont know what that means, exactly, but his website Natural News, which calls itself the worlds top news source on natural health, is a cesspit of conspiracy theories and very bad health advice. Beyond the fact that it promotes unproven and often dangerous medical practices, Adamss tone is so paranoid and abrasive, he makes Ted Cruz seem like a teddy bear.
...
If you read carefully and follow the links, you see that Dr. Gorski is not the subject of any investigation but the one in Mike Adamss own head. Adamss writes that he himself has pestered the FBI to look into Gorski for reasons? Making it seem as if a well-respected surgeon is the subject of a federal investigation is a dangerous road to go down.

Anyone who uses Mike Adams or his web page, Natural News, as a source should be helped to understand the reality that this person is not ok.
Thank you.

(40,416 posts)And Novella has done so fucking much for science education it is amazing that he has anymore life to spare. Do people realize that the podcast he hosts and produces Skeptics Guide to the Universe has not missed a weekly download for over a decade?
And yes, Science Based Medicine is one of the geekiest and honest medicine Blogs on the planet Earth. Love it, too. (Not enough Marc Crislip, though. )

(36,827 posts)The site particularly specializes in vaccine denialism and woo,[4] AIDS/HIV denialism,[5] quack cancer treatments,[6] and conspiracy theories about "Big Pharma"[7] and modern medicine in toto.
Furthermore, Adams supports quantum woo, specifically quantum healing[8] and quantum consciousness.[9] NaturalNews advances a hard green position, even though the site also promotes global warming denialism.[10] To top it off, Adams promotes conspiracy theories about gun control.[11]
If you cite NaturalNews on any matter whatsoever, you are almost certainly wrong.

(1,527 posts)Sorry, could not help it. But I could not read the Forbes article and went looking for what this was about. I do not know any of these people but it looks like Adams and Dr. Gorski duke it out on their respective blogs.
There was another oncologist in the Detroit area a Dr Nadir that was found to be purposefully mis-diagnosing medicare patients with cancer they did not have and subjecting them to chemo injections just so he could bill medicare/medicaid. Nadir is in jail now. Adams is claiming that Dr. Gorski is involved in a similar scheme, and calling for Medical board and FBI investigations into him.
This is either true, and Dr Gorski should be prosecuted, or quite possibly this is a false accusation by Adams, and as Cali says Adams should be sued for false statements. Since he is sending these claims to the FBI, he would also be guilty of lying to a federal official. Other than being in the same city and both in oncology, I did not see the link between Dr. Nadir and Dr. Gorski.
I am going to skip the quote, but here is a link to the Adams claims just for the whole story. http://www.naturalnews.com/053736_Dr_David_Gorski_medical_conspiracy_allegations_Karmanos_Cancer_Center.html

(35,773 posts)Find a way to read the article, or go to SBM, or Orac's site. If you don't know enough to know the reality about Adams and his web page, then there might be a problem here.

(36,827 posts)As if any of the countless example of his past batshit nuttery weren't enough, He's actually self authoring a "news" story about a "medical conspiracy allegation" that he is making himself and speaking about himself in the 3rd person.
