Cookies are basically files on your computer that say "I was here." in regard to the websites you visited. Other websites might look at those cookies and then customize their ads based on them.

Which is stored in the cloud somewhere, so just clearing cookies won't help.

Answer, you cannot avoid it...part of the new way marketers get information about you.

If you don't like getting targeted ads like that, disabling cookies will eliminate any retargeting/remarketing...which require cookies.

But if you auto-login to sites like this one, that won't work. You'll have to manually type in your user name and password every tome. Auto-login uses cookies, too. Also, while most sites store user preferences on their side of things, some also use cookies to store user preferences like layout, time zone, etc. on the client's computer. You'd have to set those up every time you visit or just accept the defaults.

I'm not bothered by retargeting/remarketing, though. If I have to see ads (I don't here: star member), I'd prefer they have at least some chance of being something I'm interested in.

They can seem kinda creepy, though, can't they? A bit stalkery... =)

gets rid of the ads and allows you other means to greatly improve your DU experience.
