(23,973 posts)For instance, there's a hundred of them living under your bed, right now, and they've never once bothered you.
Sleep tight tonight.

(27,677 posts)The photo in the OP has the spider in the foreground to make it appear larger, which is not really necessary for this species. A similar illusion is used to make this Camel "Spider" appear larger:

(476 posts)That thing is terrifying. I have a pretty severe arachnophobia, so thanks for the horrible nightmares and no sleep FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!
Unlike some people, I know where my phobia stems from. When I was around 4 or 5, I found a white thing attached to the corner of some beams on our porch. Not knowing what it was and being the curious sort, I poked it with my finger. To my surprise it moved a little, so brilliant little me, I poke it again...harder. The white thing tears and out pour what I remember being hundreds of thousands of little eight legged horrors that immediate began crawling up my hand. Panic set in and I froze (apprently, my flight mechanism is crippled in some way). The beasties contiued to swarm over my hand, up my arm, onto my shoulder, neck, crawled into my ears, my hair. I have no idea how long I was paralyzed in fear before my mom realized that a silent toddler must be getting into trouble and came to my rescue brushing the spiders off me.
Since then, I have acute phobia of spiders. I literally paralyze and if they get to close I've been known to paralyze so badly I'll stop breathing and pass out.
