The body of the 28-year-old victim, Peter Martinez of Brooklyn, was wrapped in garbage bags and his arms were tied behind him when he was found on Monday along the shore in the borough's Sheepshead Bay area.
"The cause of death is asphyxia, including covering of the mouth and nose by duct tape," said Chief Medical Examiner Barbara Sampson in a statement. "The manner of death is homicide."
There have been no arrests in the case and the investigation is ongoing, according to the New York Police Department.

(14,860 posts)who hear about ONE horrible crime tend to jump to the conclusion that similar horrible crimes are going on all the time, everywhere. I personally know people who honestly believe that tens or even hundreds of thousands of children are being kidnapped by strangers every year.

(20,733 posts)Sadly, we've closed the mental assylums and made treatment for the poor impossible. Until we wake up and get it that psychological medical care should be free, this will keep happening, along with daily shootings.
Instead, we reduce social worker's and government social intervention programs so that the rich can get richer.
I'm tired of wringing my hands when we refuse to do anything meaningful to change it.
Poor man's family.
