It was as shocking as it was predictable after a year of slow-motion build-upthe dramatic splitting apart of the Grand Old Party in the 72 hours after Donald Trump became its presumptive nominee.
When asked Friday if the organization he now leads is officially Trumps party, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus responded with pithy double-speak befitting this dystopian moment in our politics.
Its the partys party, Priebus said.
Whatever party Priebus was speaking of is currently in tatters.

There are 3 parts of the GOP base:
1. Traditional small govt fiscally focused
2. Nativist anti immigrant, but populist
3. Traditional social values voters.

(23,364 posts)Other than that, the GOP "owns" state government, the US senate and house, they're doing very well. The presidency is the only firewall we have between us and regressive repressive government.
Elect a true republican president and we may see the end of the ACA. Trump is unpredictable, and might actually demand something to replace it. (This Bozo would replace ACA in a heartbeat, if I could, with single-payer.)
