Russia wants to be the worlds top exporter of Non-Gmo and organic food

This comes at a time when countries are refusing to accept America's GMO foods

Russia—which largely opposes genetically modified food (GMOs) and is stamping out GMOs in its entire food production—wants to be world’s largest exporter of non-GMO food, according to RT

In a speech given to Russian Parliament last week, President Vladimir Putin announced his intention to be the world’s biggest supplier of “ecologically clean and high-quality food” and criticized GMO food production in western countries even though demand for organic food has soared exponentially in recent years.

“We are not only able to feed ourselves taking into account our lands, water resources—Russia is able to become the largest world supplier of healthy, ecologically clean and high-quality food which the Western producers have long lost, especially given the fact that demand for such products in the world market is steadily growing,” he said.

Putin also said that in the last decade, Russia has gone from importing half of its food to becoming a net exporter. Putin claims that Russia now makes more money from selling food than from selling weapons and fuel.

But what I can't get my head around is....this is a lucrative niche market, but since the sanctions, those products wouldn't make it to the US (which probably due to distance, wouldn't happen anyway)....or most EU nations. Countries like Austria, Switzerland, etc. would only be the benefactors. Unless, the end of sanctions is an already forgone conclusion.

organic produce while the US government continues to put ex-Monsanto people at the head of the FDA and rams GMO down the throats of its own people and the throats of as may foreign populations as it can. Those arrogant SOBs in our government think they're winning on all fronts... completely clueless as they stuff their pockets will filthy lucre.. totally unaware that they're digging another grave in the graveyard of empire.

Cuban farms could one day help to feed Americans’ burgeoning appetite for organic food.

Amid the fanfare over President Barack Obama’s visit to Havana, U.S. officials and executives from major food companies, including Honest Tea, Stonyfield Farm and Global Organics, are eyeing the island as a potential supply of organic products, looking to take advantage of its close proximity and decades of farming without chemicals.

Cuba has the ability to grow many of the products that are in high demand in the United States. Coffee and bananas, which both grow well in the island’s tropical climate, are the top two organic imports by value in the United States, and mangoes are not far behind, according to the USDA. Combined the three products represented more than $600 million worth of imports to the U.S. in 2013.

Then there is the possibility of having Cuban farmers grow organic versions of other high-demand crops, especially corn and soybeans needed for animal feed.
