http://www.liberalamerica.org/2016/05/09/ex-mccain-aide-says-trump-may-go-insane-loses-hillary/Asked about how he thinks Trump will fare in a general election contest with Hillary Clinton, Salter said he expects Trump will lose badly, and that could just push him over the edge psychologically:
Hes going to lose, and I think hes got kind of an unstable personality to begin with.
I think he could come apart, you know, in some kind of visible way. I think thats quite possible. Im not a psychiatrist, but there is something wrong with (the) guy.

(6,736 posts)For him to go insane would require that he be able to acknowledge, on some level that he cannot refute, that he was legitimately defeated.
That is something he will never do. Should he lose the election he will find something or someone to point at as a scapegoat. The voting machines were rigged, for example. Or he will claim he never wanted to win in the first place. Why would he want to win? He can earn hundreds of times more money as a private individual than as the POTUS. All he really wanted to do was to bring to light some issues facing the nation, and he succeeded at that, just as he has always succeeded at everything he has ever set his mind to.
And more of that sort of thing. He'll get over not being President within days, of not hours. And we'll soon hear about his next project, which he will promise us will be huuuuuge.

(11,175 posts)There also may be some scapegoating, as others have mentioned. An obvious possibility will be to charge that the GOP regulars stabbed him in the back. That will almost certainly be true, even to an objective observer.
