Wisconsin Recount and Election Audit Laws:

First, the Recount laws. It's important to note that any voter can demand an audit, although fees must be paid, depending on the margin of the results. You can see the whole process of Wisconsin recounts here:

http://www.ceimn.org/ceimn-state-recount-laws-searchable-database/states/Wisconsin

Election Audits: Each election has an automatic audit of results on selected sample reporting units. Here's how it works:

It's interesting to see how all of this works, so I'm providing links to the information, so anyone who doesn't know how it works can go and see.

You can see what systems are used throughout the state. Interestingly enough, there are a lot of places where traditional paper ballots are used.

In some of the municipalities, no equipment is specificied. I take that to mean those paper ballots are hand counted. In others, equipment is specified where paper ballots are named as the voting type. Optical Scanners are mentioned in some places as well.

I'm not there, so I'm just posting that list. If you're in one of the municipalities where it says "paper ballots," without any equipment being named, you could verify that they are counted by machine, but the list is pretty clear about providing the equipment information. It looks like hand counts are used in many small communities. Check it out.

We have paper ballots counted by voting machines. I think the municipalities listed are those where you can choose to have your ballot hand counted. Mine is not one of those. We just got new, free machines this year, as did many other counties.

Forty-six Wisconsin counties and 3,000 voting machines are being controlled by a two-person company operating out of a strip mall in Minnesota
