Grayson (D-Fla.), whose bid for the open Florida Senate seat Reid vehemently opposes, arrived at the meeting with Reids February statement in hand, according to two sources in the room. In that statement, Reid said Grayson has no moral compass and used his status as a congressman to unethically promote his Cayman Islands hedge funds.
As each member took a turn to speak to Reid, it was Graysons turn. He asked Reid if the Nevada senator knows who he is. After Reid answered in the affirmative, Grayson went on the attack.
Say my name, senator. Say my name, Grayson told Reid as Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) tried to shut down the confrontation. Ellison chided Grayson, asking him what he was doing and why he was distracting from the meetings goals.
Grayson responded by angrily waving a printout of Reids searing quote that called on Grayson to drop out of the primary race against Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Fla.).
Whyd you say that? Grayson said, insisting Reids statement was false.
Reid calmly faced his inquisitor: I want you to lose. Its true.
.....The Progressive Caucus is a place to fight for progressive values, not fight for Alan Graysons narcissistic desire to hear someone say his name, Murphy said.

(50,254 posts)It's "badass" to want a Democratic Senator from Florida who is going to spend most of his time voting against anything any Democratic president wants, and against anything significantly different from what Republicans want(as Murphy generally did in the House)?
What good does it do to elect somebody as a Democrat who defines himself, as Murphy always has and always will, by how many times he votes to the right of the vast majority of the Democratic Party?
It's not as though Murphy could get any more votes in the fall than Grayson. In Florida, if you're a voter who agrees with the Republicans on any significant number of issues, you aren't going to vote for ANY Democratic candidate.

(81,866 posts)All a person has to do is check off the ideological checkboxes and their acts are irrelevant. Grayson is a guy that should be repulsive to true "progressives." He's an ethically challenged Cayman Islands hedge fund managing millionaire that allegedly got physical with his wife.
He's the kind of person Democrats and "progressives" should run away from, but integrity isn't as important as politics to some people. It's hypocrisy that leaves a blind spot for people like Grayson.

(50,254 posts)OK, he's probably pro-choice, but in isolation that isn't much of anything. It's worthless to elect someone as a Democrat if they are against us as often as they are with us.
Murphy has never been with us on much of anything but issues that don't threaten the rich.
We don't HAVE to revive the right wing of the party to get a Democratic Senate.

(58,785 posts)themselves, though, and this time there is just no good choice on the Democratic side. And, of course, the GOP side is absolutely terrible, making Murphy look positively leftish by comparison.
But remember the issue of character? SBSers are constantly attacking Hillary on character, but it's not right to consider this loose flywheel down in Florida's? So-called "principles" that are used like brass knuckles on some while others get a pass are not principles and need to be examined.
As for Grayson, the FDP's record in who they support and why does not seem impressive, and normally I might ignore their position and feel that the strong left candidate would be the obvious choice, even if flawed.
However, Harry Reid's an entirely different matter. Reid is a liberal and a progressive, an extremely competent one trying to elect a Democratic Senate majority, and he's trying to keep Alan Grayson from running for a Senate seat that could well go blue. We may not know all the reasons so many party leaders want Grayson out of the race, but for sure Reid does. In any case, the likelihood that the GOP would slice and dice a man with such a questionable record in the general would be enough by itself.

(20,176 posts)I ask because I genuinely don't know, haven't been following the story for some time, and the last I heard it had been discredited.
If that changed, I want to know...I liked Alan but I despise perpetrators of domestic violence.

(12,322 posts)Then there is the story about being a hedge fund manager (this one from the New York Times):

I, too, used to really like Alan, even contributing to one of his campaigns. There are just too many red flags now.

(12,322 posts)There are others. The Orlando Sentinel is a reputable paper.
He wife says. That's your fucking proof? I live in Orlando and for you to say the Orlando Slantenel in reputable is laughable.

My mom lived in Orlando, too, until she died of Parkinson's Disease. The nature of that horrible illness, including the brain surgeries, paralysis, rehabs, nursing homes, etc. necessitated my living in Orlando quite a bit of the time to help with her care. It was a very lonely time, and one of the things I looked forward to was reading the daily paper, The Sentinel. Maybe it's not the Boston Globe, but I got plenty of news out of it.
My mom lived in Alan Grayson's district. My step-father was there when Grayson gave out blank pieces of paper saying that was the "Republican's health care plan". My step-father also volunteered for Grayson's campaign. Not anymore.
It seems there has been quite a bit of negative news about Alan Grayson, too much for it to just be rumor. It is out there if you want to find it.
Now, go find someone else to laugh at.
