Trump all day on every cable news channel. The only break they make from Trump is to report increased layoffs,
Clinton's E-mails or whatever Bernie Sanders has to say negative about Clinton. How do we get the news media
to cover the damn news. I have Tweety on the subject Trump and Ryan meeting as of now 15 minutes into the show
and Trump Trump Trump. It has become pretty obvious to me that the Republicans will be united for their convention and it looks like ours will be one in disarray. The only break I can get from that SOB is watching Netflix.

The number one issue I have with CNN/MSNBC is their propensity to rotate the same 2-3 topics of the day for 18 hours...

(15,396 posts)Right now they're just playing the ratings game for profit, not any different than the evil corporations we normally bitch about.

(15,805 posts)There's no criticism; he's making them all rich as their ratings go through the roof and the ad revenues pour in. Everything Trump says is accepted as truth from on high. His most outrageous pronouncements are heralded as the wisdom of the ages. The cameras capture every departure and arrival of his ugly black plane as if covering the Pope. Reporters hang on his every word in awe, they shake his hand in gratitude for access, and almost genuflect in his presence.
If elected **shiver** the media will place him on a pedestal and sing hosannas in adoration because he will make them wealthy beyond their wildest dreams.

(3,447 posts)Pick up your phone. Call your 'provider' and tell them you are no longer interested in watching the illusions presented on the screen. Tell them you will take your reality in the proper way from now on, and that they are no longer entitled to the paper talisman that we use to represent portions of our life.
At that point, step outside, breathe in the air, and find something else to do other than think about media. The Medes were never nice, friendly people to begin with, and the branch named after them isn't either.
At least...it worked for me!

I don't have a TV, and I think as a consequence I'm better informed than a lot of people. I wake up every morning to Amy Goodman, often listen to the BBC which comes on right after her on my local community radio station. I read the local newspaper. It's not the greatest, but it keeps me reasonably up to date on local events and issues.
I read books. I cruise the internet. Most important, I don't get hooked into whatever is the latest wall-to-wall coverage.
To give an actual answer to your question: humans in general are subject to herd thinking, and that's what's behind the nonstop Trump coverage. The corporate overlords are terrified they will make a mistake and lose audience share, so they try very hard to go with whatever will grab the most eyes or ears. Original thinking of any sort is not merely not rewarded, but it's actively punished. It's the grown-up version of kids in grade school wanting the same cool toy some other kid has. Again, herd thinking.
So if you can acquire a set with an off button, my suggestion is that you make use of it on occasion. Go take a walk. Read a book. Write a poem. Bake a cake. Something to occupy your brain that's not just filling it without constant noise.
