for all the empathy, kind wishes and support of every sort (financial, emotional, spiritual, physical, Ian's pizza, etc.) that our fellow DUers have extended to the Cheesehead contingent during our last 16 months of travails. It would have been much harder to carry on without you, and without DU as a refuge when we needed it. I'm pretty sure I'm not just speaking for myself here.
Rest assured that though we have lost the first battle, we will carry on the fight for all that we're worth. And more.

(40,656 posts)those who were swayed by lies will know it. Remind them that freedom ain't free. The shame they should feel they earned. As someone who endured the shame of Palin, I hear you and feel your pain. HUGS, Jackpine and your state.

Still the majority in the State houses...that'll help eh? beats a poke in both eyes with that sharp stick.

Tuesday night was another heartbreaking night. But, I keep thinking that these people need to remember that what goes around comes around. The tide will turn in our favor again. And, I hope we will have the pleasure of seeing Walker charged and tried for corruption.

(111,273 posts)You woke some people up and got them interested in what was happening around them. The exit polls said it was a lot closer than the voting machines said it was, so you shouldn't feel that huge a defeat.
Sometimes a war of attrition is what you have to wage, costing the bastards who want to wreck things just a little more every time they try.
It's the type of war an outgunned resistance to occupation wages and over time, it can work.

They can easily make that money back that they spent. All that money the Koch-roaches donated was like chump change to them.

(4,507 posts)I've been to Wisconsin many times, and sure, the people I hung out with (one of my best friends in college is from Appleton) were very pleasant, but Wisconsin as one unbroken sea of calmness and "nice"?
Have any of their writers ever been to Camp Randall???

(4,507 posts)although the worm has turned in recent times (you've been beating us regularly). I had a law school classmate from UW who would regularly torment me in the most indecent of ways (the guy was relentless!). I'm going to be sending him gifts with current scores as the motif from here on in. For our paper anniversary (this year), he gets the basketball score (we *finally* beat you guys).
On the cold, yes, holy crap is it cold. So very, very cold. I love the Madison campus (love Madison, in general), and somehow the campus does not invite cold in the way the open stretches in Ann Arbor do (imo). Although I remember being in Racine and being as cold as I've ever been in my life, excepting a New Year's trip to Montreal. Racine = Oh My God Cold.

(32,064 posts)in the mid 80s so it's been awhile. It was too cold for me to stay. Even growing up there ... my main goal in life was to move somewhere warmer and a UW degree helped me do that quickly. The campus is gorgeous though - especially the arboretum in the summer

(1,925 posts)it is a pleasure to say thank you...
I just had to let go of news since Walker.... it was too disturbing...
Jackpine Radical... I have been in a situation (in a Pharmacy in Canada ) where an old couple came in to the Pharmacy having seen an ad for a fantastic cold product... It was so cleverly advertised... and promised the moon...
It was not available yet in Canada..... and I researched the product and found out that it contained guaifenesin, which was supposed to liquify secretions and make them more easy to cough up.
Only problem: my pharmacy references suggested that perhaps the chemical really did not really work very well..
Anyway the product was hyped cleverly on TV.
So, I located guaifenesin in a generic liquid form for my elderly patients.... which was less than 1/4 of the price of the high priced brand name product.
They looked at me in horror... I could read their faces.. that I was trying to sell them an inferior product..
They then thought that I was a crook
The reality is that the brand name product is sold for thousands of dollars more than the generic is worth....possibly does not work at all...
but is advertised brilliantly.
People fall for it... and even disregard the advice of others.. in the face of the TV ads.
What do you do to decrease the influence of negative ads that big money buys? I wish I knew...
Anyway... many thanks for all your hard work....

(23,244 posts)What you did is an inspiration to all of us. I know that I will never forget the battle of Wisconsin. I believe in my heart that Scott Walker "has awakened a sleeping giant, and filled him with a terrible resolve." WE WILL WIN in the end! You guys are to thank for that! Good luck and Godspeed to all of you who fought!

(36,392 posts)From my POV honest effort is at this point no match for money and corruption, and we're going to have to rethink what we call resistance. But that in no way diminishes my awe for the ground troops of democracy in WI.

(34,458 posts)Walker can't do anything now, so it's almost the same as recalling him. And it cost a lot of Republican money that could have been spent in other states.
I'd call that a victory.
