(CNN)When Donald Trump skipped a GOP debate in January to host a fundraiser for veterans, he touted its success by citing the $6 million raised for veterans groups. One problem -- that figure is inaccurate.
Following the rally in Des Moines, Iowa, the Trump campaign said the event raised $5 million and Trump personally contributed an additional $1 million. But campaign manager Corey Lewandowski told CNN Friday the amount raised was actually less than $6 million.
Lewandowski said he did not "know the exact number" off the top of his head and would confirm the number in coming days. He explained the discrepancy by saying at the time of the rally, Trump believed he had raised $6 million but more money had been pledged than was actually donated.
The Washington Post reported Friday that Lewandowski said the fundraiser actually netted about $4.5 million. Lewandowski told CNN that number is incorrect.

(18,115 posts)1. 4.5 is incorrect, but it was not 6 as touted.
Was it more or less than 4.5?
Trumpy always says what he believes and his belief is always found in self delusion.

(82,849 posts)3. Weird, huh?
Knuckles Lewandowski doesn't know what the actual amount was, but he knows it wasn't no $4.5 million. Uh huh.

(14,732 posts)4. The more interesting question is what happened to those monies,
be they 6M or 4.5M or whatever? There doesn't appear to be any accounting of them as going to any Veterans' Groups.

Veterans Charities Await Funds Raised by Donald Trump

A survey by The Wall Street Journal of 19 of the 22 groups originally listed by Mr. Trumps presidential campaign as the prospective recipients of the funds found that they had received roughly $2.4 million of the estimated $6 million in donations the campaign said the event generated. The total received by all of the groups is likely to be more.
One organization refused to disclose how much it received, another said it needed to submit more paperwork before a check would be forthcoming, and one didnt respond to multiple inquiries.
All of the groups reported receiving checks from the Donald J. Trump Foundation or associates through the mail, and most arrived in late February in increments of $50,000 or $100,000. Three organizations reported getting smaller donations in March that averaged between $5,000 and $15,000.
