(7,499 posts)he'd already have bombed some country into dust by now; wrongly, of course, but at least he would have taken quick and decisive action.

The should investigate the Cubana bombing from 1976 - they never mention that one.

(36,827 posts)Even a small fire can overwhelm the inside of a cockpit in short order. Airline pilots are trained for such occurrences and they have oxygen masks they can don in seconds, but if they are dealing with other situations as a result of the fire it could create problems that would be difficult to deal with.
I declared an emergency once due to smoke in the cockpit. Fortunately it was minor and I had just taken off and was able to return quickly, but it's definitely something that gets your attention very quickly.

(269,157 posts)Scary stuff - looks like several things happened and quickly. Hope the end was quick for everyone - not my idea of a nice death.

(28,627 posts)why would that be? Was there something wrong in the steering or was it trying to avoid something?

(36,827 posts)Combinations of multiple stalls and a spin could explain much of it.
An airliner at altitude is typically operating in the extent of the flight envelope by which a narrow band of airspeed must be maintained. The higher the altitude, the narrower the band gets.

(101,361 posts)The automatic messages do point to fire harming the electronics; and 'mechanical' (meaning an explosion that tore the plane apart, I presume) wouldn't give 2 minutes of messages before complete failure.

(53,342 posts)The publication cited information transmitted through the plane's Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System, or ACARS, which transmits data from the plane to the ground in the form of a series of messages. Those messages showed that smoke was detected in the plane's lavatory near the cockpit, according to the report.
but, what *I* find most interesting is the complete silence and lack of claims by various (or *any*) terrorist group, esp. ISIS
Wouldn't they be clamoring to make it known they had done it, if they did??

(38,475 posts)* Still could very well be terrorism though.
JimDandy
(7,318 posts)that there was any violence and still her campaign continued to make that claim. She probably will walk back this terrorism claim, if proven false, though, as it will be more important to her to not disparage others on the international stage, than it was to not excoriate Sanders, a political opponent, and his supporters on the national stage with a false claim.

(2,016 posts)Some form of fire was the cause of the crash. The fire alarms went on near the cockpit. It could be accidental (short circuit) or intentional (some form of chemical lit).
The fact the remains found are not burnt just shows the cockpit fire must have caused the disintegration of the plane without triggering huge ball of fire. Nothing more.

(12 posts)it looked like terrorism to me also. I will give the both of them a pass until this is sorted out, by recovering the ''black box''. [ actually orange ] It could easily be a small, carefully placed bomb of some sort, by knowledgeable people , to cause a fire and loss of control. Remember-- a ''soda can'' bomb brought down the Russian airliner. IF----- a terrorist group did do this--- why have they not basked in the ''glory''?
