"Democrats" Ally With Oil and Gas Industry to Fight Colorado Anti-Fracking Ballot Measures

Just a few days ago here on DU we saw where "Democrats" were fighting legislation in Washington that would do something to control high drug prices. HOW MUCH MORE of this kind of shit do we need to see to know that today's "Democrats" are really REPUBLICANS and that ACTUAL Democrats -- liberal, progressive, FDR style New Deal Democrats are all but GONE from the political landscape (except Bernie Sanders of course and that's EXACTLY WHY his campaign is SO important).

Just yesterday here on DU there was an article about a "Democrat" (Mark Warner) who went to some event where he told the 1% - bunch of rich assholes - that they should organize and FIGHT against the rest of us and to gut Social Security and Medicare ("entitlements&quot .

What else do we need to see? This is the second or third article I've seen in as many days about so-called "Democrats" fighting FOR big corporat profit and AGAINST citizens, homeowners, common people and working people?

Oil and gas companies are spending heavily to crush three Colorado ballot initiatives that would limit fracking. And some of the state’s most powerful Democrats are helping them.

The stakes are particularly high for several Colorado communities that have voted to limit or ban oil and gas development locally. Those limits were nullified in two cities by state Supreme Court decisions earlier this month. So the ballot initiatives may be their last best chance to slow development whose speed has surprised even cities that initially supported oil and gas projects.

“We feel it is a last ditch effort,” said Tricia Olson, director of Coloradans Resisting Extreme Energy Development, or CREED, which is pushing to get two of the measures on the ballot.

One measure would allow cities to pass rules to limit or even ban oil and gas development locally; the other would disallow companies from building oil and gas facilities closer than 2,500 feet from “occupied structures.” A third, supported by a separate group called Coloradans for Community Rights, would empower communities to make all kinds of decisions, including whether to frack. The groups are currently in the process of gathering the 98,000 signatures required to get on the ballot.

. . .

If anyone knows the power of Colorado cash to swing local politics, it’s Trimpa. He was an architect of Colorado Democrats’ surprise take-back of state politics from Republicans in 2004. The scheme involved aiming the cash of four wealthy donors, known as the “Gang of Four,” at key races, and later evolved into an infrastructure for coordinated Democrat donations through a network of non-profits.

The “Colorado miracle” became a model for Democrats nationwide. Trimpa has since served as a board member of some of the national Democratic Party’s most important funding and policy appendages, including Democracy Alliance and ProgressNow, as well as the American Bridge 21st Century Foundation, which supports the Clinton campaign through a super PAC of the same name.

but there is a much better chance that a Dem will vote progressively than a Repub!!!

That's the thing about getting old. I've heard this argument that Dems are no better than Repubs for years. That is just not true.

rather than hold them accountable to what Democrats say they are.

Are you ok with Democrats working against communites trying to get local power to prevent fracking of their lands and aquifers?

If so, knock yourself out. If not, you might think about lining up to oppose such deeds.

We know Republicans suck and support fracking. When Democrats side with them on such issues, we have no way to stop it. Time to hold our reps accountable.

In tax breaks.

9 Billion dollars.

There are other ways to fight corporate extortion than just handing them 9 billion of my tax dollars I will have to pay to make it up to the Boeing stockholders.

They couldn't ram the tax break bill through fast enough.

They aren't Democrats.

They are prostitutes.

no longer afford to give these traitors the benefit of neither doubt nor "political courtesy". we and the planet are out of time. fracking with highly toxic chemicals and waste injected into the ground and water tables is poisonous.

poisoning americans and the land we live upon is not something we can compromise according to levels of toxicity.

you may be getting old and not care but we have generations of family for whom quality of life not a commodity.

...for letting this shite go this long! But now the opportunity for change is HERE. No use beating our breasts about the past. Seize the day! The Sanders campaign is awakening millions of people. It is happening suddenly--shockingly, to the Democratic powers-that-be and their corporate sponsors, and astonishing to all, even, I think, to Bernie Sanders himself. In fact, he has said something to that effect.

The political revolution that so many have hoped for is happening but so suddenly that I don't think anyone fully comprehends it. We're focused on the primary right now, but, long term, we need to pick some important, fundamental targets--for instance, the 'TRADE SECRET' voting machines and voter registration systems. It's all been privatized. We need to UN-privatize it, as a first priority. After that, campaign money--an organized, massive effort to fund Bernie-policy candidates, and to force our state and federal governments to enact public financing of campaigns.

Like that. Get strategic. Change the rules. Set the target priorities. There is nothing we can't do, as Bernie has so often said, if we pull together. He IS pulling us together. Let's make sure we stay together and act, whatever the outcome of our primary, or the Trump vs. Clinton farce, if that's what happens. We can make sure that neither one will get more than four years to fuck things up further. But we need to get organized and not yield to depression and disempowerment. Those two d's are how the corporate rulers have gotten away with so much, have invaded our party and 'turned' our leaders.

"If the Democratic Party would fight as hard for the Working Class as the Republican Party fights for the Ruling Class, the Republicans would be a powerless minority party within a few election cycles.

The Democratic Party knows this, the Republican Party knows this, the Ruling Class knows this- and they've been astonishingly successful at making sure the Working Class never learns this. ~ Anonymous

That's what this is about. They want to become lobbyists for this or that industry, so they have to get in good with them before hand. It's all about the horse-trading and influence peddling. Few elected Democrats give a shit about anything other than getting ahead. It's all about getting rich later on. Inside they are Frank Underwood: venal, ambitions, amoral.

Look at Barney Frank. He used his elected position to lobby for banks, now he works for one.

I hate them all, with a few exceptions. Worthless, conniving, soulless.

No wonder so many people refuse to be members of either party.

I just tweeted this to Donna Brazile. I hope others will tweet to other party "leaders" to let them know we are going to fight them on this.
