and as I type this I am munching on one of the recalled products.
But have been eating them for 4 days, so they seem ok.
Still, off the grocery list for awhile.
This is one of those listeria findings that started off small and keeps expanding:
Here is the info:
TreeHouse Foods, Inc. (NYSE: THS) today expanded its voluntary recall of products containing sunflower kernels which may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes (L.mono).
This follows the announcement on May 18, 2016, by our supplier SunOpta of its expanded recall of sunflower kernels which have the potential to be contaminated with L. mono.
L.mono is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
Product was distributed nationwide through retail stores. The additional products being recalled as part of the expansion are listed below. Consumers can find UPC codes and Best By/Date Codes on each package.

Thanks for posting. K&R!

(13,297 posts)I ate all my sunflower seed snacks quickly before any of 'em join a recall with the TreeHouse Foods one.
(grin) I'm KIDDIN'
Always good to keep an eye on things like this -- bagged-anything can be worthy of a double take

(1,945 posts)Thanks for posting this! I literally just finished off a bag of a brand that is listed. From what I can see I'm ok as the 'best if used by' and upc codes are not the same. I have one more bag to open but it appears to be ok too. I eat these things like crazy, especially while driving or reading online...like now! Whew!
Unscientific anecdote--I have been noticing that if I have heartburn and eat sunflower seeds the heartburn seems to go away. Probably a coincidence but I was trying to figure out why it might happen. The oil in the seeds wipes out the acid maybe? The salt does something? One of those things that makes you say hmmmmmm?

(60,010 posts)Too many gives me heartburn, big time, and only Pepto will stop it.
Esp. have to remember to not eat them after 8 pm, cause lying down will set off heartburn from eating them too late at night.

(10,558 posts)I read this while eating a salad at my fave restaurant. It was closing time, just me and the cook. I stopped her when she brought me my burger and showed her that article. At first we thought the brand of sunflower seeds she had been munching on was safe but upon closer inspection it WAS on the lengthy list! Expiration date and serial number matched up.
It will be going back to Wallmart for an expected reimbursement and an enquiry if the product has been pulled yet.
Soooo... your alert may have saved a 61 year old cook a bout with a nasty illness. Thank you again for this.

(60,010 posts)DO take the bag and lot number with you to the store and check if they have pulled them.
I suspect they will, cause last week that frozen veggie recall that had expanded to practically every damn maker, resulted in ZERO frozen veggies at the store.
I get daily recall info. in my mail, and the big ones I think are worth posting, cause it seems that the recalls start off with just one tiny part of the problem and then expand big time.
still not eating Blue Bell ice cream, I am mad at them for KNOWING since 2014 they had a problem, and not doing anything till they were forced to.

(10,558 posts)One never knows when it might make a difference. I recall a few years back when a fellow DUer alerted us to bad dog treets coming out of China. Apparently the products were making dogs terribly sick, even causing some dog deaths. This DUer's alert about those tainted treats garnered much interest here, I've little doubt it saved many of us much grief.
I knew the cook was into eating healthy so I showed her your alert. Now, her and her husband (they are owner/operators), are very much following up on what they now know-thanks to you.
Thanks again.

(12,633 posts)that I got a robo call from my Kroger's supermarket alerting me that something I "may have" bought, according to their records, has been recalled. Frozen veggies, Chinese frozen dinner and today, house brand vegetable soup mix. Fortunately, my purchases were not the actual products that were recalled. But I know the recalls often spread to similar products.

(60,010 posts)At first they recalled just plain froz vegies.
Then they expanded to froz foods that had froz vegies in them.
We had to toss about 10.00 of vegies.
The pot pies are ok, cause we ate those before we knew of the recall.
But it is gonna be interesting what happens to the new season of vegies, since the old season has now been dumped.

(49,212 posts)I send my dad links to the stuff I suspect he might have in the house, and he pitched a ton of frozen fruit and veg. You might well have saved him from a serious illness or worse because he's waiting on an organ transplant right now and he's real fragile.
