"Don't be misled by phony sloganeering like 'common sense gun legislation' or 'smart guns,'" he said. "There is nothing smart about what they are up to, as you and I both know. None of this crap will reduce violence, suicides or mass shootings."
The crowd erupted in applause several times during Clarke's talk, which was one in a nearly four-hour-long series of speeches from pro-gun heavyweights and politicians like presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump and U.S. Sen. Rand Paul.
Like those who spoke before him, Clarke focused mainly on protecting the right to bear arms, calling out "anti-gun bigots on the left" for making a "common enemy" of the National Rifle Association.
"It's not about reducing mass murders, suicides or street-level violence. Heck, it isn't even about gun control," he said. "Folks, it's about power. Political power. It's all about government control over our lives."

(36,063 posts)Milwaukee City is 39 percent black and 63 percent minority, yet he won 80 percent of the vote there in 2014.
Voters conditioned to vote for "D" apparently will vote for dems who are objectively pretty terrible.

(12,194 posts)"Unfettered gun rights" is a myth put forward by those who wish to see "arms" in amendment 2, be defined as single shot firearms or less. Those folks are more properly known by the phrase "anti-gun extremist".
The sheriff in question isn't lobbying for the elimination of all gun laws that I've seen, nor have you presented evidence that he is.
You simply attack him, in spite of the fact that hes a Democrat, because gunz.
"Unfettered".

Yep. Sheriff Neil (sp?) sat behind Trump with a big smile on his face, and later explained he was there because Trump supported police officers. This was well before Trump's nomination was inevitable.
When the expected outcry by Dems occurred, he "apologized", though the word is that he always voted Republican until he ran as a Democrat to replace the ancient retiring sheriff, Simon Leis.
I don't know his position on the NRA, but imagine he is pro-gun.
No, I won't be voting to re-elect Sheriff Neil.
