from Republicans I mean. Am I missing something? Am I deluded? Maybe its the basic difference between Democrats and Republicans, Conservatives and Liberals, but I just don't see things the same way that they do.
Think about the sad and pathetic world Republicans live in. It's like a video game where danger lurks with every step you take. It's a world full of different types of people who all have one thing in common-they're all out to get you. They want to rob you, they want to kill you, they want to rape you and THEY are everywhere. Everybody wants to take your stuff and even the government is out to get you. Terrorists, immigrants, dark folks, all with nothing else on their minds but getting YOU.
What's it like to live in a world where you think you need to bring a gun into the rest room lest the lurking perverts get you while you pee? Lock you doors and arm yourself to the teeth because somebody is always ready to break into your house to steal your crap and rape the women-folk. The government is taxing you to death to give your money to worthless ne'er do wells living off your hard work. Instead of enjoying the $100.00 you made, you obsess over the $1.00 you didn't. Gays, Mexicans, Muslims, Liberals, what have you-all out to screw with you and YOUR world. Because that's just the way THEY are. Smarty pants liberals taking your freedom. You can't trust the scheming conniving scientists with their climate change crap-just another excuse for somebody trying to take your stuff. Even their God is out to get them. Fail to meet an impossible standard and you might get damned for eternity or maybe even some more immediate punishment like a tornado or flood to teach you a lesson. What kind of way to live is this?
I got a call for a political poll tonight while eating dinner. A lot of questions about the folks running for office in my county. The last question was "what do I fear, crime, drugs, terrorism or something else?" I told the person on the phone, I don't really fear much of anything to tell you the truth. Then I thought for a second and said you know what scares me-crazy people, mean people, stupid people who will do stupid things. They scare me to death. You have a category for that? Other than that I'm good.
That's what made me think about the sad world of the modern Republican. I'm not scared of anything. They're scared of everything. I haven't locked my door in 30 years. If you draw a 10 mile circle around where I'm sitting and typing this you'll find every race, every religion, every national origin, sexual orientation, political persuasion, every shape and form of person there is and it makes me feel lucky. It scares the hell out of my neighbors.
Don't get me wrong, I worry about taking care of my family, if the world is going to be a better place, things like that. But I don't live in fear. There's always somebody new to meet, something new to learn, something different to experience, something beautiful to see every day. I sure as hell don't worry about who's peeing next to me. So maybe it's just me living in a fantasy world-but I don't think so.
It's amazing to me that the folks who love to talk about our country as the land of the free and the home of the brave all the time are so willing to give up their freedom because they're always afraid. Maybe I really am afraid of something. I'm afraid that these small-minded, small-brained cowards might end up in charge. That's pretty frightening.

(2,419 posts)and I think the premise is correct for gaining political traction for good and decent ideas and policies. It also explains the policy differences to a certain extent. It doesn't explain the fearfulness that seems to permeate the discourse of modern republicanism. I wouldn't care if it wasn't being translated into actual policy that does so much harm to so many people for no good reason.

(5,714 posts)Essentially, republicans don't like change and they use fear to draw their people in.

(1,967 posts)My parents lived during WW2, and that was a scary time. Nazis and the Japanese Empire, those were scary threats.
People peeing are not a threat.

(23,156 posts)Who are absolutely convinced that the only way to be safe is to be as far away from the scary others as possible, and to be sure to have a loaded gun in easy reach.
Or even, on a somewhat different level, the people who are afraid of getting some terrible disease, who are afraid to fly, who are afraid of clowns. Okay, so getting a terrible disease would be bad, but spending time worrying about it? What a waste of time.
It makes so much more sense to enjoy what there is to be enjoyed: friends, family, good books, wonderful music, a sunny day, a rainy weekend.
I'm glad I'm not afraid of things.

(838 posts)Now your description is making me thinking of developing an actual video game based upon your description, so gamers everywhere can experience how ridiculous it is to live like these folks.

(5,082 posts)Obama and Clinton hold back playing hardball. I wonder why. It allows these idiots to fester and grow and rehabilitate themselves everytime they do something that normally would sink them forever. Clinton and Obama can't do anything because they also make deals with those who fund people on the right. The only way out is to support those not playing footsie with the banks.

(24,300 posts)I would take that gun and shoot myself right in the head rather than live with such self-induced fear.
These people worry about terrorism while at the same time they are terrorizing themselves.
Laxman
(2,419 posts)if you spend so much time frightened that you feel compelled to tote a gun around every where you go, you might as well just put yourself out of your misery. Or do you live with the fantasy that you'll be the last one standing? This probably explains a lot about why The Walking Dead is so popular.

(7,947 posts)Things happen, and then any given human being will put their own perspective on it. Like take climate change. Is it an objective problem? No. That people might die as a result of it in some way, that's not an objective problem. The planet or universe doesn't care if you die, or how you die. That's just something that might happen, or will happen eventually either way.

Yes "they" are. They're going to get you! Just like the opening scene from the original Night of the Living Dead.
