So about the danger of those Trump voters

I understand why he appeals to them.

I understand that they believe he can “fix” everything.

I understand that he’s appealing to their bigotry and hatreds.

I understand that they want their lives to be better.

I understand they’ve turned off their ability to think rationally.

I understand that they are afraid of a world that is not white and Christian.

What I don’t understand is why they can’t, in some minor way, grasp the reality that this is a man (accompanied by the Republican Party) who wants to virtually enslave them. It’s not that big a mental stretch to see what Trump would do if given full power. His voters are not, for the most part, Forrest Gump. They’re people who are angry, bitter and in need of their version of a “better world.”

In some ways, I pity them for the blinders they wear willingly. And in another way, I fear that their world-view can bring about destruction that will descend on us and them also.

And for all these reasons, I consider them the enemy of all sane human beings who hope for a far better world in which ignorance is curable and in which fairness, justice and tolerance are the norms.

“Enemy” is a harsh word. But consider the world that could come to be if their choice for president, Trump, ends up winning (or stealing) it. They can't grasp that their votes are a bigger threat to our freedoms than ISIS, Al Qaeda, and all the other groups that wish us ill. They don’t understand that when the ideals of America are tossed aside, the world will become a far worse place.

I never did, but apparently he played an all-mighty all-knowing super-effective leader. I think his followers think reality TV is real.

And the media is letting Trump get away with it for the most part.

People are not skeptical when they are told what they want to hear.

9. You summed it up in your last paragraph. They don't understand.

They're hearing what they want to hear at the moment, and since it's what they want to believe is true, they're not looking any deeper.

They don't understand what they're asking for, or what they're about to vote for in the greater scheme of things. They have no concept of the irreparable damage Trump as a president could cause them. And they don't want to know. It would mean that their entire belief system is wrong, and that they won't even begin to consider as a possibility.

They want a dream, and Trump is promising to deliver that dream to them. That's all that's resonating with them.

There were two neighbours.

They always quarreled with each another. One day one of them said “I will pray to Ram, I will meditate on Ram, that when I see Ram I will ask Him for a blessing.”

So he meditated and prayed. Ram appeared to him and said “My dear fellow, what do you want?”

"O Sri Ram", said the man. "I want a blessing from you. I want to have the blessing, that whatever I ask from you I get.”

Ram said “Very well, under one condition. I will give you this blessing with one condition that whatever you ask me, your neighbor will get double.” The man thought for a while and said “Well, fine, let it be so, Sri Ram”.

The next day the man asked Ram for a roomful of gold, but his joy was blunted by the realization that his neighbor now had two roomsful of gold.

So the man asked Ram asked for one house, and lo and behold, his neighbor had two houses. The same thing happened when asked for a car. Suddenly, his neighbor had two cars.

Despite his immense good fortune, the man was no happy. His envy of his neighbor ate him up inside. “How come I prayed so much, but my neighbor is profiting more?”

Do you know what the man said next? He said “Ram, I want you to take one of my eyes out.”

Yeah, they know well enough that Trump is going to enslave them, but here's the rubber - he's going to enslave you lot as well, and they have less to lose, and the less scrupulous of them will be able to find cushy positions in the Politburo and the Cheka.

Yes, they hate you that much.
