Idaho family sues school after alleged sexual assault of black football player
By William Wan and Michael E. Miller May 25 at 7:34 PM
The whispers began last fall in Dietrich allegations that white students on the high school football team had sexually assaulted a black teammate with a coat hanger.
But no one in this rural Idaho town of 330 really knew the horrific details of the case until the victims family filed a lawsuit this month against the school.
Now, the lawsuit has sparked recriminations, debate over racism and hand-wringing bewilderment over how something like this may have happened in a town so small that its children attend the lone school in Dietrich from kindergarten through high school graduation.
A few years ago, some kids broke into the one little store we have in town; that was our big crime wave in Dietrich, said Mayor Don Heiken. Weve never seen anything like this. No one knows how to deal with it, what to make of it.
Two teammates were expelled from school in November, and in March, after a lengthy investigation, three were criminally charged with sexual assault. A judge sealed records in the case at the request of the state attorney generals office.

Last month, four parents with students enrolled in McDaniel's biology class filed a complaint with the state's Professional Standards Commission, alleging the 17-year veteran instructor used shared student information, promoted the views of a political candidate on school grounds and taught different forms of birth control.
The parents were also offended that McDaniel explained the biology of an orgasm and included the word vagina during a biology course for 10th graders.
In a response letter to the commission, McDaniel denies he did anything wrong and explains this is the first complaint he's received during his teaching career.
"In all my 17 years of teaching, I have yet to get a complaint. This is the first time I have ever had an issue with what I teach and how," McDaniel wrote in the letter, according to a story published Monday by the Times-News. "I still stand by my statement that I haven't done anything wrong.
"This school is notorious for letting students and parents run off good teachers," according to his letter.

educating them does not seem to be a priority with some of the parents.

The teacher in that story is the adopted father of the victim in the OP.
