Oregon Marijuana tax collections expected to be higher, much higher (no pun intended)

Pot-tax collections expected to be higher

Report anticipates state to get $43 million in current biennium
Bulletin staff report / May 26, 2016

Sales of recreational marijuana in Oregon yielded $10.5 million in tax revenue in the first three months of the year, according to the Oregon Department of Revenue. ... report anticipates the state will collect about $3.7 million in taxes per month on average from recreational marijuana sales, or about $43 million total after expenses in the current two-year budget cycle.

That’s much higher than the $8.4 million previously forecast for the biennium. .....

This year, the Revenue Department collects a 25 percent tax on each recreational marijuana sale. The tax rate drops to 17 percent in 2017. Based on sales trends so far, however, the department expects to raise at least $60 million in recreational marijuana taxes in the 2017-19 biennium.

Now medical growers can sell to dispensaries, and besides lower prices the weed is also tested to make sure you don't get exposed to hazards.

Even with a big slice going to taxes, prices are down. There is open competition now for your business, lots of places to shop.

If marjuna is legal in my state, can't I grow my own? Strictly personal use.

I know people who grow their own tobacco for personal use without any legal problems.

You have to give away about 7/8ths of those 4 plants if you know how to grow a big tree-like mama. It's a logistical nightmare they tell me! One reason the price has fallen, all the free weed because you can grow it but you cannot sell it without a medical grower's license. You need to be a patient or supply one to get that.

But, citizens can grow their own in private, give it away, and smoke it in private.
