I've been saying this for about six months, but what do you think:

http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/03/2016-elections-al-franken-vice-president-213756

''....Trump’s presence demands new rhetorical weaponry. As Trump himself might say, Franken’s “classy” and “elegant” wit is just what the ticket needs to avoid the kind of brawl that drags everyone down to Trump’s level. Clinton will want to stay above the fray, and Franken can provide the buffer.''

The article in whole is very persuasive on several counts, including his progressive record (strong support for net neutrality, against TPP, e.g.), appeal to younger voters, ability to think on his feet, and total eagerness to engage maniacs in a way that drives them crazy:

Remember how he humiliated Bill OReilly at the CSPAN bookfest?

was proven clearly to be an outright liar, so he changes the argument to, "Franken is a big meanie to point out my lies." Oh, and of course he has to yell, "Shut up!!!!!" a few times, because he knows he's being totally exposed for the BS artist he is.

if gore had've had a trump-like mindset, and gone after Dumbo's clearly lazy, half-assed, approach to everything, they'd have relentlessly played back his own idiotic pronouncements....if they'd just showed clips like this, and NOTHING else, he'd have been laughed off the campaign trail:
