Remember Cissy from "Family Affair"? I kissed her in 2004 and again tonight PIX

Last edited Sat May 28, 2016, 07:19 AM - Edit history (1)

The fund raiser was the 60th anniversery showing of "The Ten Commandments": http://www.omahafilmevent.com/upcoming.htm

And actress Kathy Garver who portrayed young Rachel in the film. She is the last known actress to have a speaking part under the direction of Cecil B DeMille.

Kathy Garver is best know as Cissy on "Family Affair".

Marta and I met Kathy in 2004. (http://www.steveandmarta.com/tzcon2004.htm) She was so happy with something I said, I got a kiss. It happened so fast we didn't get a photo. We recreated the kiss tonight. A local actor that played Moses for the attendees to our left. He owns the most successful "Haunted House" in the Omaha area each October.

Apparently Marta didn't want to talk about the kiss back then: Next we went on to Kathy Garver, who still looks like Cissy on "Family Affair." She had done some TZ episodes on radio, and had them for sale; we purchased her performance on "The Fever." She signed a cast photo from FA for us as well, and Steve was quite happy.

I've been lucky to be around some of the biggies. Debbie Reynolds.

His Brooklyn accent came in handy here.

The episode after a couple commercials: http://www.hulu.com/watch/58777

Review from link above: Skipping ahead a few episodes, I present this timely holiday season review of the four-star Night Gallery segment “The Messiah on Mott Street,” originally aired on December 15, 1971.

“The Messiah on Mott Street” ****

Written by Rod Serling
Directed by Don Taylor
Edward G. Robinson as Abraham Goldman
Tony Roberts as Dr. Morris Levine
Yaphet Kotto as Buckner
Joseph Ruskin as the Fanatic
Ricky Powell as Mikey Goldman
John J. Fox as Santa Claus
Anne Taylor as Miss Moretti

“The Messiah on Mott Street” is one of Rod Serling’s finest original scripts, a warm, uplifting story that manages to combine both the Jewish and Christian late-year holidays. Like his previous “They’re Tearing Down Tim Riley’s Bar,” this is an atypical Night Gallery segment in that largely eschews the supernatural (although there is an element of it) and instead focuses more on real human feeling and emotion.

It’s Christmas Eve in a rather shabby New York neighborhood where seventy-seven year old Abraham Goldman (the great Edward G. Robinson) lies deathly ill in the apartment he shares with his orphaned nine-year old grandson, Mikey (Ricky Powell, in a good performance).

FULL review at link.

great color and awesome costuming.

I always thought Cissy was so cute and loved Brian Keith, who looked a lot like my dad.

I do like the original movie too. The grand scale of it, and movies like it, are spellbinding. I've noticed when watching movies like that, time is meaningless. When the movie is over it's like "What, already?"

I had such a crush on Cissy. I was 10 in 1966. She still looks great.

Marta and my dear friend (and liberal democrat) David Macklin was on several Perry Mason episodes. He worked with Barbara Hale.

Holly, Nicolosi, and Kathy mixed with the crowd during the film when not doing autographs.

On the right is Marta and my film appreciation class teacher from high school. He was happy to see we turned into lovers of classic films. I think we were before his class. He now owns a costume store including these outfits for the atmosphere. He is a direct descendant of playwright Henrik Gibson: http://www.biography.com/people/henrik-ibsen-37014

I told him I remembered a test question. He forgot the answer. What was the first film to show violence in slow motion? Answer at the bottom.

Bruce puts on a hell of a show.
