Twenty-one-year-old Arab Israeli Ta'alin Abu Hanna from Nazareth won Israel's first transgender beauty pageant and will represent the country at the Miss Trans Star International pageant in Spain in August.
"If I had not been in Israel and had been elsewhere in Palestine or in any other Arab country I might have been oppressed or I might have been in prison or murdered," Hanna told the Times of Israel.
Hanna will also get $15,000 to spend on gender-affirming surgeries in Thailand, as well as hotel accommodations during her stay.

gay, lesbian, transgender, are almost always the easiest to pick on in any society. just read an article that a 16 year old gay boy in isis held terrority was stoned to death by a crowd. With all the problems in the world, its always amusing that what bathroom someone uses or if a man chooses to love another man is always at the forefront of poeples mind looking for excuses to cause harm. its the 21st century for god sakes get over it.

(2,273 posts)If she were in Iran the State would have paid for her surgeries and she would not have had to win a beauty contest.
Dilby im usually very critical of iran (my home country) but what you said is correct. The gov of iran doesn't explicitly ban transexuals. So homosexuality IS punishable by death. BUT if you transition to a women the iranian gov doesnt see that has haram or forbidden and will not stand in your way. BUT once you do transition, lets say to a women and you have sex with a women. You will be executed.
Also im not sure where you get MANY islamic countries from? you will get abosloutly killed in many islamic countries if you exibit trans gender tendensies. arab countries like saudi arabia forbid it 100 percent.
EVEN to use your Iran example. Although the government doesn't sanction execution of transexuals, MANY MANY times especially in rural areas. Families themselves will honor kill there family members if they bring shame onto the family. So this notion that somehow your this free transexual skipping through the fields while the country excepts you is a pipe dream. Even if the gov doesnt kill you. Your family, tribe, can kill you just as dead. Especially in arab muslim countries.
Also another example is caitlin jenner. She although transitioned, wants to have relationships with females. This will get you executed even in iran.
Behind the Aegis
(53,961 posts)Reassignment surgery is actually viewed as a "treatment" for homosexuality. The fact (backed up by actual truth and statistics, as opposed to "facts" in the post to which you responded), transgender issues are treated abysmally in most of the Islamic world, and, quite frankly, in many parts of the world.
I looked and looked (OK, a few places), but I couldn't find anything on the process of gender reassignment for women to men in Iran. Almost all of it is MTF, and there were "allusions to" FTM, but I couldn't really find any stories. I know it isn't really fair to ask you, but since you are Iranian, do you have any knowledge about this topic?
I know "honor" killings extend to the GLBT community but are rarely reported, especially in countries where the death penalty is exercised for GLBT people.
Again, thank you for the OP. Israel still has quite a few issues with GLBT issues, but it is still ahead of many Western places, and light-years ahead for the Asian continent.
