I did not know he had polio. I did not know he went to Warm Springs for therapy as a child. He left there able to walk.
I did know his wife was an immigrant.
The reporter asked some pretty good questions. She missed some. "How do you feel about the fact that you walk today because a Democratic president privately created a clinic where you got therapy?" " How do you feel about current immigration issues?". "How did you turn out to be so wrong about issues and know that you are totally obstructing our government?" "How do you sleep at night?"
There are probably more.

(60,344 posts)He's not an obstructionist while he said he will not allow Obama's nomination to the SCOTUS go forward.
That segment made me sick

(1,241 posts)obstruct and any thing else they could possibly do to try and make Obama fail. For 7 fucking years now they have done nothing but obstruct. But as long as they get to keep that pay check they don't give two fucks about what we think. At a 9% rating every fucking one of them should be fired. Any other employee with a 9% competent rating would be on disability and rightfully so because he is disabled.

I know he spoke about throwing out the tea party in the 2014 elections.....which is at least a step in the right direction; but how does he possibly allow that fiery ball of hatred towards Obama control the Senate?

(19,288 posts)What a horrible rotten disease.
I wonder if post polio syndrome has impacted his ability to think clearly and have empathy for human beings.
He's a taciturn, sour, bitter, nasty, excuse for a Senator.

(6,929 posts)others do not. Paul Ryan and I both lost our fathers when we were children. I will always be eternally grateful for the Social Security money that helped my mother for herself and her three children. Paul Ryan missed the point. He got his but no one else needs it now.

I always wonder, how can people like Ryan and McConnell BE that way? How can anyone live with such a small, lifeless, putrefied, shriveled heart?

(58,785 posts)Big Business's man in Congress? During the Tienanmen Square uprising, business became very alarmed that the U.S. was going to slap sanctions on China, so one very wealthy businessman in particular, a self-made shipping magnate, with a history of questionable doings, who had become an American citizen went looking for someone to represent his interests in Washington and was directed to Mitch McConnell, who already had an impressive reputation for effective influence peddling. He did so well that his name was passed around in China, and what followed has been a mutually extremely beneficial and lucrative partnership ever since.
McConnell's lifelong dream was to become Senate Majority leader, and he spent 30 years trading his vote for increasing power (most of it via donations of money he'd then use to get other people elected, who would then support him). And here he is. He gets reelected by the people he's spent 30 years betraying by spending whatever money it takes to bury those running against him under mountains of negative media. Those he serves make sure he never has a problem with money.
McConnell eventually married a very wealthy daughter of that first Chinese billionaire, Elaine Chao, herself an extremely ambitious hard-core conservative. She became Secretary of Labor under W and currently works for the Heritage Foundation, which is of course dedicated to both increasing the transfer of money and power to an ultrawealthy class and to destroying progressivism as a political force.
When they're not tending to their more publicized work, they're busy helping companies like Massey Energy get away with murder (including Chao as Labor Sec), one year in prison and some misdemeanor charges hardly justice for years of deadly and highly illegal practices. The tiny fines alone are proof in themselves of outrageous corruption. They are both really nasty, amoral pieces of work.
This article is about only one of the crimes they are complicit in, the Massey Energy coal slurry disaster--before it actually happened.
