JUDGE: What a huge debt this nation owes to its "troublemakers."

What a Huge Debt This Nation Owes to “Troublemakers”….
June 8th, 2012 | Author: Matthew D. Weidner, Esq.

The Occupy Movement offers important lessons for every single one of us. These are lessons that we should all be heeding now, but we will not until it is far too late.

Fascism is sweeping, sometimes violently across this nation. Our First Amendment rights are being trashed and our Constitution is being desecrated. The political leadership is fostering dangerous division among the people while at the same time acting as stewards and enforcers for the corrupting corporate interests that have gutted this country.

The protests we have seen thus far are just the tip of the iceberg. What is coming as our nation confronts the horrifying consequences of our economic reality will be far more than the vast majority of people in this country are prepared to comprehend….

But listen to what the judge said; what you see is a brilliant jurist carefully balancing respect for the First Amendment with the rights and responsibilities of law enforcement under the First Amendment:

What a huge debt this nation owes to its “troublemakers.” From Thomas Paine to Martin Luther King, Jr., they have forced us to focus on problems we would prefer to downplay or ignore. Yet it is often only with hindsight that we can distinguish those troublemakers who brought us to our senses from those who were simply . troublemakers. Prudence, and respect for the constitutional rights to free speech and free association, therefore dictate that the legal system cut all non-violent protesters a fair amount of slack.

the gutting of America continues. It's no wonder cameras are going up everywhere, drones are wanted and local police forces are being militarized.

As the hatefulness, separatism and corporatization of the American government continues, all hell will likely breakout in the 21st century making this a horrendous place to be.

Still, IMO, many Americans snooze clueless as to what's going on as they vote for those wishing to make this a pit for many of the citizens for power and money at any cost to the US. What a damn shame.

Its the so called troublemakers who make real change happen, and better the human condition. Whether talking about striking workers or blacks or women who strived for equal rights.

I can always tell the sheep and authoritarian types when they disparage protesters, yep, we have some on our side too. They are the ones who never make change happen in society.

I doubt that anything good will come out of the tea party, for example. No, it is the progressive, liberal, egalitarians that drag this world forward.

Add that to the maxim that the majority is wrong far more often than it is right and a picture begins to form...

but at least it is a start.

As one of my friends put it though, folks are not thinking in terms of class. Everyone is still thinking of themselves individually and labeling themselves as repugs, or progressives, or protestants, or whatever - and that is the reason the very rich have worked so hard to break the unions. The unions are able to bring folks together and get them focused on class. They remind folks that when they come together they can fight back against their oppressors.

That is something we need to re-learn as a country and we'd better learn it quick because the calls for extreme austerity are coming loud and clear.

When the Working Class & the Poor realize we have MORE in common with each other
than we have in common with the 1% and their employees in Washington,
THEN, we can have "change".

Our neighbors in Latin America have given us the Blue Print for "change".
What they have accomplished is nothing short of near bloodless revolutions.

"The worst enemy of humanity is U.S. capitalism. That is what provokes uprisings like our own, a rebellion against a system, against a neoliberal model, which is the representation of a savage capitalism. If the entire world doesn't acknowledge this reality, that nation states are not providing even minimally for health, education and nourishment, then each day the most fundamental human rights are being violated."

That happens with him occasionally and to anyone who flirts with The Edge.

Those who insist that OWS needs to field their own candidates and become a Voting Block had better be careful what they wish for. The Democratic Party doesn't have a very good track record for romancing this group.

of the Global Corporate oppressors. With the help of the Corporate Media. See the change in the attitude towards Chavez on the LEFT eg. Back in 2002, that did not exist. But they went to work to try to try to demonize him and then Morales and any leader of those sovereign countries who dared to institute actual change, making it harder for them to install the usual dictators we seem to love so much. Thankfully it may be too late to turn back the clock on SA, as Bush was too busy salivating over the ME for the past decade giving those countries time to consolidate the control they have wrenched from the hands of the Corporate invaders. Hopefully it was enough time. They don't give up easily.

once they appeared on the scene they became a threat. Because they voiced out loud what many people were thinking, and that was way more of a threat than had they been violent. Because bad things can continue to happen so long as good people remain silent. And that is what was happening.

So they were immediately attacked, brutally by military style robo cops all over the country. The reaction was astounding frankly. So way out of proportion, and yet we had people on the 'left' condemning them.

"...everyone is housed, feed, healthy, and educated...."

"In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all—regardless of station, race, or creed.

Among these are:

*The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;

*The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;

*The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;

*The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;

*The right of every family to a decent home;

*The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;

*The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;

*The right to a good education.

All of these rights spell security. And after this war is won we must be prepared to move forward, in the implementation of these rights, to new goals of human happiness and well-being.

America's own rightful place in the world depends in large part upon how fully these and similar rights have been carried into practice for all our citizens."--- FDR. 1944 SOTU

But I guess throughout history there has always been a period of denial, it is hard to face when it comes to your own country which you have so much faith in. But sooner or later it does have to be faced and it looks like more people are doing so. So hopefully that awakening will help to reverse the current trend, although it will take time. But we have to begin somewhere.

There are always those lurking around waiting for a chance to take over and impose their evil will on populations.
