General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI never knew there was a Republican website that is pro-Obama!!!
It's called http://republicansforobama.org/
Republicans for Obama is a grassroots organization of proud party members who all share one important trait we are Americans first and Republicans second.
Founded in late 2006 as part of the nationwide effort to encourage then-Senator Obama to run for the Presidency, our volunteer-run, grassroots group now includes thousands of members from across the nation. Together, we represent a cross-section of the millions of Republican and conservative independents who support President Obama's reelection in 2012.
Although we have campaigned, worked for, and voted Republican all our lives, we recognize that President Obama is the right leader for our country at this time. Our current Republican leadership is unable to stand up to the most extreme elements in our party, no matter the circumstance. Meanwhile, President Obama has challenged his own party on numerous issues, including taxes, healthcare and foreign policy. President Obama has forged a pragmatic, common-sense path forward during a challenging time.
President Obama has rejected the politics of division and the win-at-all-costs attitude that has hurt our ability to move forward as a nation. While we as Republicans will not always see eye to eye with President Obama, we know that his politics of unity is the only way forward for America.

(3,491 posts)how many people actually are members at the site.
Just reading a few of the comments on the Zimmerman shooting and it actually sounds like DU comments over there.
Is it possible that not all Republicans are ass wipes?
ailsagirl
(22,898 posts)but it sounds like it's for moderate Republicans who think Obama is the better choice. But if they're registered Republicans, they can't vote for the Democrat incumbent-- or can they?

(22,898 posts)I thought "reasonable Republicans" was an oxymoron
Maybe not. This, coupled with Jeb Bush's comments about the right going way to extremes I find almost encouraging.

(10,893 posts)Jeb still said he would prefer to see "$10 in spending cuts for every dollar in tax increases." But he's okay I guess, compared to most of those GOPhers who were running for prez this year.

(1,374 posts)would abandon the party, particularly where moderate Republicans won in the past.

I wonder why there are not more.

(199 posts)It picks away at some of my cynicism.
There are a few "Republican" types I've spoken to who do believe their party has abandoned its core beliefs and has become too extreme. But maybe that's why we don't hear much from them because they are afraid of speaking out in a country of people that still demonize the word "liberal"
Perhaps there are more of these types than we think. Or maybe not. Perhaps the Republican asshats we all know and hate are just the ones who yell the loudest so they are always heard.
Meh. Who knows

(17,064 posts)but this could be a Dem-run astroturf group. It has a similar feel to the Hill is 44 astro-turf group started by republicans. Maybe Im wrong... I hope I am.

(7,252 posts)During that election they offered solid support for the now-President. I haven't seen anything from them since to give any cause for doubt that they're genuine.

(17,064 posts)I know a few republicans distressed over the extremist agenda of the party. I dont know that theyll vote Obama though... theyll probably sit out this election.

(343 posts)He also voted for Kerry and will vote for Obama in Nov. In fact, he plans on donating to Obama's campaign. Obama and the Dem party of recent years represent his core values whereas he feels completely alienated from what the republicans are offering up.
My husband was a staunch Republican for forty plus years. Never voted for a Dem in his long voting history, until GW Bush's run for a second term. So, he's a Republican in name only these days. I couldn't be prouder of him!

(31,011 posts)They weren't sure about Obama, but after a year or so they now love him. They still call themselves repubs, too.

(343 posts)my husband can't bring himself to formally change his party affiliation. I guess for him it's kind of like an wearing an old, frayed, flannel shirt....worn, tattered and out of date but still offers some measure of comfort.

(22,898 posts)Honestly, if I were republican (no way in hell), I'd vote for Obama. I mean, of the two men, who is better suited??
Good for hubby

(53,661 posts)State legislatures that have passed so many laws restricting the right to choose, voting and letting corporations run rough shod over the public interest, and pushing privatization of everything, like schools?
I did see them make negative comments about Romney saying we didn't public workers, police, firemen, etc.
Jamaal510
(10,893 posts)it sort of made me wonder if it was actually helpful for Obama's re-election efforts for him to try as hard as he did to compromise with Boehner and friends. I understand that he disappointed a number of people from his base by constantly bending over backwards (myself included) and not being liberal enough in some of his policies, but it looks like he's at least coming across to moderate Republicans as trying to build bridges between both sides and making an honest effort to look out for everybody.

(19,053 posts)How many times hasn't it been said that these are the votes that the administration are working to win? And if you ignore rhetoric and go with actions, the Obama policies are reminiscent of Reagan policies...which again tell you whose vote the administration is striving for. They figure they have the Liberal vote locked up (you have to vote for me or the SCOTUS will be even more screwed!) so they have governed to please the "sensible" republicans.
