No need for deporting people. No need for Muslim ban. No need for current monitoring program for potential terrorist attack.
I was listening to NPR radio. Some Dem intelligence committee guy was talking about supporting Obama and Clinton's approach. That was fine. However, he did not mentioned anything about gun issue. Then some police related guy said this 'he was under the radar and called in by FBI a few times. However that was not enough to stop him from buying guns.'
People dream about extreme things sometime. I did when I was young. However, the difference is such a easy accessibility to weapon for mass murderer.
If NRA is so strong, then let's learn something from the right. Let's expose the gun shop owner or local walmart or online shop who sold the gun to this criminal. Let's do it for all recent mass shooting.
Remember KKK was not weakened by criminal law suits. It lost operational funds after civil law suits.
What we need is national database for assault weapon purchase and purchaser. I also believe someone should start suing gun shop.
I cannot stand these mass shooting since they were preventable!!
Let's do something.
We can go viral to such activity. I have to say there are enough gun owners who are responsible and never interested in buying assault weapon.
Let's not lose focus on what we can do to changes!!

(11,996 posts)There are various guidelines and laws controlling such sales, And they include federal (and maybe state) background checks..
Also, see PLCAA.

(34,174 posts)If you don't want gun dealers to sell AR15s to nonprohibited people, then you need to make the case for a law banning them. Suing them is not the answer.
And you're OP is a good example of what PLCAA is designed to prevent -- lawsuits based on emotionality and intended to put lawful gun dealers out of business.

(10,164 posts)It's (in part) the fact that the list of things that can cause a background check to come back negative is too narrow. I strongly advocate expanding the scope of disqualifying conditions to include a broader range of mental health diagnoses, things like domestic violence indictments and related court orders, etc. The signals were in place to deny this murderer his weapon purchase.* Those signals need to be in the system.
* Okay, sure: he might still have armed himself via private transfer...but at least that transfer could have been made illegal (universal background checks...), and the person making an illegal sale prosecuted.

(2,337 posts)The gun shop doesn't call up a private eye and send them off in pursuit of the customers past. They call into the nics system and the FBI let's the shop know whether or not they are authorized. A governmental agency dropped the ball, not the store.

(833 posts)Ok, make it less selectively, we can boycott any gun shop that sells assault weapons
This DU cares so much about corporations and bad capitalism. Why, all of sudden, are you so protective or timid with gun control??
Why, why, why??
I am originally from Japan and I cannot relate to your lack of disgust.

(707 posts)Well that's how you do it. The funnies from all over that state would stand in solidarity with the owner and he/she would be a cause cleb. It would be like Chik-Fla for guns.
