Forty Senators Have Thus Far Joined Senator Murphey's Filibuster.

A filibuster launched by a senator from Connecticut over gun control in the wake of the Orlando terror attack stretched past midnight Wednesday, more than 13 hours after it began.

"I've had enough. I've had enough of the ongoing slaughter of innocents, and I've had enough of inaction in this body," Sen. Chris Murphy, a Democrat, said during the filibuster on the Senate floor which he launched at around 11:21 a.m. Wednesday.

Forty senators have joined Murphy, according to C-SPAN2, broadcasting the proceedings.

Murphy opened the floor to other senators for questions but has not yielded the floor. Murphy said he wants Congress to enact tighter restrictions to prevent those with serious criminal histories; those deemed mentally incompetent; and those on terrorism watch lists from obtaining firearms.

So they're filibustering to suspend due process?

We don't have to agree on guns, but we must agree on upholding due process, right?

filibustering is the only way to get peoples attention to the insanity which is ruining this country. The NRA donates to the republican party so they will do nothing to help stop this gun madness. Remember that America is governed by money. Now when a muslim or arab goes crazy with a gun he is a terrorist. When a white boy does the same he is unstable. Stir up the hatred boys

in a much better fashion than the original watchlist. Ironically this could wind up as a way to improve that, too.

.. but I will never understand those who seek to block such obvious, sensible and workable solutions.

Not that they will actually accomplish much, but they damn sure don't hurt anything.

Why is it that we are quite possibly the most violent country in the world? Why are guns so necessary? In fact, in Israel anyone between the age of 18 and 60 (or 55?) must have an uzi at home in case of a sudden need to go to war, and yet the homicide rate is extremely low. Notice I mention homicide and not terrorist attacks.
Incidentally guess which country is always involved in some war or the other? You got it. Any why? Not because we are so wonderful that we want to help others but because it helps the armaments industries' stock prices. What a sad example we have become from the shining light we should have been to the world
