Petaluma police said they arrested a man on Wednesday in who was allegedly found to have an assault-style gun, multiple other weapons and several loaded, high-capacity magazines in his vehicle.
The man, 18-year-old Christopher Middleton, was said to have a loaded assault rifle equipped with a 30-round magazine, three additional 30-round magazines including one partially loaded, an unloaded shotgun, an unloaded rifle and approximately 500 rounds of ammunition in the vehicle, a black GMC Yukon, according to Petaluma Police Sgt. Paul Gilman.
Police also said they found a gas mask, knit ski mask, a military-type backpack and canteens in the vehicle.
Police arrested Middleton at the Rocky Dog Park on West Casa Grande Road without incident after a caller reported that the suspect had threatened him with a gun during an argument while the two were driving south on Highway 101 from Santa Rosa. The two were said to ultimately end up at the dog park, where the victim left Middleton and reported the incident to police.

(2,493 posts)But 500 rounds of ammunition isn't that much. My daughter/sons and I will go through 400-500 rounds when we go to the range.

Agree. I guess I was trying to add some perspective -- if the guy was going to the range in a day or two and had the ammo for that purpose, then not that much ammo.

(115,681 posts)beyond what it is. I've those in my vehicle, along with knives, gloves, a knit ski mask, another knit winter hat, a snowmobile suit, food, water, duct tape, used to carry a chainsaw and recently a tent and an inflatable boat.
The guy sounds like someone to check out, but give me a break, a canteen?

(28,552 posts)... the fact that he was arrested had nothing to do with that fact that he possessed guns.
He was accused of threatening someone with a gun and he was arrested for that.
Guess what, having guns is not a legal reason to arrest anyone.

(66,467 posts)That's not an assault rifle. It's not an assault rifle, no matter how fast you pull the trigger, or how high the magazine capacity, unless the length of the grip is divisible by pi, or unless the barrel twist perfectly mimics the spiral arms of the Milky Way galaxy, or the name of the manufacturer begins with a schwa, or unless the ghost of Samuel Colt appears in the town square at high noon in front of a crowd of thousands and publicly declares it to be an assault rifle.
Ask the gun enthusiasts; they'll tell you the same thing...
