?resize=777%2C437The horse, Lily, rescued from the New Holland Horse Auction in March, has died. Lily was emaciated and shot over 130 times by a paintball gun when she was rescued. After her rescue and rehabilitation, Lily was adopted by former Daily Show host John Stewart and his wife Tracey. Lily lived at the Stewarts farm just a few short weeks before she passed away. Lily stumbled, fell and broke her neck. She was humanely euthanized under her favorite tree with people who loved her giving her love and kind thoughts as she passed away.
An update on Lilys passing said in part During the day Lily got massages, baths and lots and lots of hugs. She slept soundly in her barn listening to soft music. Her favorite Pandora channel was Ray Lamontagne. Her bones were very frail. She stumbled and fell hard on her neck causing a break. When we knew there was nothing more we could do for her we covered her in kisses and kind words and said our good-byes.

Our hearts are aching we had so many more fun plans for her. She was beyond special and beyond loved. We are comforted knowing that we were able to give her peace. She left this world feeling love. The hardest part of adopting animals that have suffered neglect is that you often don't get to spend as much time as your heart would have liked

Rescue is a tough thing, many times they come to you with lots of issues related to the abuse they have suffered. All you can do is love them, and comfort them, give them good vet care and hope for the best.

(5,376 posts)Please accept apologies for how you were treated by those who would call themselves human beings. Shame on them! As I see it, Jon Stewart and his wife are among the most humane and beautiful souls that inhabit this Earth. Blessings to them!
for Lily.

(22,671 posts)Oh wait, my neighbors kid does something similar with his Airsoft and rocks in front of his house. He's growing up like a weed. Somehow all those plastic pellets and landscaping rocks are finding their way to neighbors lawns and roofs. It seems to be his only pastime. We've spoken to his mother and she's very apologetic, but stuff is still hitting our houses.
Fortunately, no broken windows yet.

(31,531 posts)her emaciated condition? Adults can do some pretty horrible and cruel things to animals, too.
I'm glad that her last days were filled with comfort and love.

(22,651 posts)a couple years ago for animal cruelty for having 8 horses in bad conditions. hand slap probation.
A new jersey? man who made a living sending batches of horses to horse auctions who then ship the horses to slaughter. Phillip S. Price, 65 was charged with crimes and convicted for 'paintball horse', but it was minor charges for shipping a horse over state lines without proper paperwork. The Pa. auction acceped the mans horses for probably many years, no charges for the auction.
People like Phillip S. Price, 65 frequently don't live alone, entire family including children live on those properties.

(34,137 posts)A number of years ago some teenagers were eventually caught after shooting cattle and horses with rifles. They'd drive around at night and randomly shoot animals in pastures along the rural roads. They killed several and seriously wounded a bunch.
It was only random chance they were caught. Most of the time no one even heard the shots but the owners would find injured or dead animals the next day. I don't remember all the details - it's been decades.
I do know that it was not long after we got our farm. Because of those incidents I made the decision to not keep the part facing the road cleared. We set our fences back from the property line and let trees and underbrush grow up to screen the pastures from the road. It also provides a nice windbreak, shade in the afternoons, and a place for wildlife.
I had not idea people did those sorts of things. The main question that comes to mind, is why? What purpose does shooting someone else's animals serve?
Doesn't make any sense at all.

(22,671 posts)Using black babies as alligator chum. WTF is wrong with some people!!! Horrifying.
We never learned about this growing up. I told this to my aging mother last night and she had no idea either. She was shocked.
My mouth is just gaping at the atrocities. I don't want to even think about it anymore.

(14,881 posts)For some years now, effing thugs have pulled horses from pastures at night and slaughtered them by chainsaw in the streets.
I think it was just last year, a beloved school pony's remains were found

(34,137 posts)And yeah, both cases give me nightmares. I hate to think of my horses, all but one of which was born here and never lived anywhere else, being treated like that. They would be so terrified.

(17,600 posts)I really would want to see those thugs caught and let loose in general population at the local prison for a few hours. (I know, I know, I'm not supposed to think like that, but what do you do with someone whose psyche has become so evil?)

(10,345 posts)Her name was Lily. Not "Paintball Horse".
We don't call victims of violence, "baseball bat woman" or "bullet children".
Apologies if my analogy offends, the thread title is just as offensive.

(26,404 posts)She deserves the dignity of a name, not the moniker of a victim. She was loved as Lily and died as Lily.
