Steve King (R-IA) Proposes Legislation to Block Harriet Tubman From Being on $20 Bill

Iowa Congressman Proposes Legislation to Block Harriet Tubman From Being on $20 Bill

Republican Rep. Steve King introduced an amendment to bar the Treasury Department from spending any funds to redesign paper money or coin currency.

If the amendment is enacted, it would nullify the Treasury Department’s plans to replace the current image of Jackson on the $20 bill with a portrait of Tubman, one of the most prominent abolitionists for her work in the Underground Railroad during the Civil War. She would become the first black woman ever to appear on a U.S. banknote.

King’s reason for introducing the amendment was not immediately clear, and his office did not immediately respond to a CNN request for comment.

According to The Huffington Post, which first reported the story, the Iowa Republican is hoping to attach his legislation to another bill that will authorize the Treasury Department’s funding.

even though some in his district think he is gawd's chosen mouthpiece, it never hurts to shore up the hate with an election coming.

I think also that Andrew was King's favorite Jackson brother.

why cannot the republican majority Congress (both Houses) do the same to forbid spending money on immigrants?

If the immigrants are so bad for the country, why do they allow it?

keep wages down so the rich can get much, much richer. The more immigrants, the wider that income gap gets between the rich and everyone else. It is working wonderfully so far. That income gap is getting bigger all the time. They would never let their Republican toadies stop it.

Is he a closet Democrat? No.

Does he not believe a woman should be on our money? Possibly

Does he have something personally against Harriet Tubman? Not likely.

Is Andrew Jackson his idol? Could be.

Is it because he is a racist? Don't like to accuse someone of something so vile without proof but is most likely the correct answer.

Can't wait to hear his explanation for this one.

Maybe it'll be a bit different this time.
