Minneapolis cops leave security posts at Lynx game over shirts

http://espn.go.com/wnba/story/_/id/16999653/minneapolis-police-leave-security-posts-minnesota-lynx-game-protest-shirts

When members of the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx wore T-shirts with a message seeking change following the deaths of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling, who were both fatally shot by police officers last week, they weren't the only group taking action Saturday.

Four off-duty Minneapolis police officers who were working security for Saturday's Lynx game elected to leave their posts at Target Center in response to the players' stance.

"I commend them for it," said Lt. Bob Kroll, president of the Minneapolis Police Federation, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Calling for healing, compassion and dialogue, players from the Lynx and Liberty donned shirts over the weekend honoring Philando Castile, Alton Sterling and the fallen Dallas police officers.

Are they against increased police accountability and professionalism?

to either characterize other people's second jobs as easy or to characterize what other people meant by a symbolic gesture.

I do, however, think the facts of the story should be reported accurately. They were off duty.

So unless you truly don't understand the difference in usages, let's not play games.

Nor do I understand the arrogance of taking offense at "Change starts with us. Justice and accountability."

(And having done two year's of security at minor ball leagues during college, yeah-- it's pretty much the easiest job in the universe)

that's a difference of opinion. It's allowed.

I try not to make judgements about how hard or easy someone else's job is.

I'm a teacher, and I was once told by a parent that I work half a day for half a year. On one of the many Sunday afternoons this year when I had to pass on the movies to stay home and grade, my grandson told me that I should become a principal. "All they ever do is walk around saying 'hello' and talk on the loud speaker."

It always looks easy if it's someone else's job.

That's up to the management of the Target Center.

Fire them from their police department jobs? Why?

Considering their other "job". I'm leaning more that these cops don't like African Americans.

Until they get their feelings hurt by a shirt that...honors dead cops. Take a seat, gentlemen.

But let's not pretend it was about honoring dead cops. If it had been, the names of the murdered cops would have been right there alongside the name of the murdered African-American victims.

Hopefully the department never needs to send you out on any calls that involve anything more dangerous than a kitten stuck in a tree with how fearful you are.

And they're a menace because they walked off the job at a basketball game?

You have a rather low threshold for menace, IMO.
