Open carry laws. Yeah Howdy!
Assault rifles as plentiful as mushrooms after a spring rain.
Got a grievance? Get a gun and go shoot at it.

(21,328 posts)Guns are violent and disgusting by their very nature. I don't care if the company is listed on the NYSE. That's not where they're getting their money from. They're getting it from the people themselves.

(110,159 posts)My son was uncomfortable what he was seeing when driving by. Turned around to see that all was ok. He was still uncomfortable because the woman said nothing, acting odd and he didn't know what to do, but the man had backed off a bit.
We were talking about it, and what a tough call that is. Good he stopped, but not addressing the woman was an oversight, figuring out what to do in that situation. BUT...
The consideration is that man could have a gun. And death.
That is our reality today. In every interaction. Gun, can be death.

(5,557 posts)if we want to get ANYTHING passed (safe storage, better background checks) we need to openly admit that sweeping bans are not politically, logistically, or culturally possible.
We were so freakin close to universal background checks after Sandy Hook, until the zealots started barking for bans. The resulting backlash blocked everything.

(110,159 posts)because the gun packers are so fuckin' afraid in life needing to protect themselves. Now, we have accident and purposeful killing going on all the time. We cannot interact with people in the real world knowing anything piss them off they can pull a gun and shoot.
The fearful have created a world we all now have to be fearful to live in.
Brilliant.

(23,156 posts)could injure or kill. Dressers get recalled because six children die. Volkswagen is vilified for altering emissions testing which could possibly lead to thirty additional deaths over a period of years.
And every day thirty or so people die in this country from guns. Some specific deaths get a lot of coverage, such as some sort of mass shooting, but otherwise, a giant yawn.
These recent cop killings might actually make people care enough to consider real gun laws, but I wouldn't count on it. If 20 dead elementary school children wasn't enough to change anything, nothing will. Plus, there are constant claims that guns used defensively somehow save more lives than are lost, which strikes me as pretty much horseshit.

(23,156 posts)If only every single gun death would get wall to wall coverage, at least locally, after a while people would finally begin to understand how many people really do die from guns. And maybe, just maybe, even some of the most dedicated gun enthusiasts would get it that there need to be limits on guns.
Oh, and I also think photographs of the victims should be shown. The damage done by bullets is much worse than most people realize.

Yes, it is absolute horseshit. The only people who beehive that are the gun humpers who spew it as fact.
Actually, even they probably know its horseshit.

I can perfectly well express myself clearly on that point. I don't need all that NRA bullshit to know exactly what I need to know.

Horseshit? Compare the absolutely lowest estimate of 108,000 defensive gun uses to 30,000 lives lost, 20,000 of which are suicides. It could be argued that not all of the incidents where a gun was used defensively would have otherwise resulted in the victim's death, but it could also be argued that the suicides would have occurred by other means in the absence of access to a gun. Both are speculation, so it's a wash. We are left with at least three times as many defensive gun uses as lives lost due to gun access.
