Yes, I don't think the spouses of presidential candidates are writing their speeches to the convention out on napkins themselves, but . . .
If you are giving that speech you would look at what other spouses have done to get a feel of what the speech is and how it has been delivered. Anyone would have looked back and watched several of these from Nancy Reagan to Michelle Obama to Laura Bush, all of them.
She clearly did not do this, there is no way anyone could have seen Michelle's speech and then read that one tonight.
Just wow.

(111,332 posts)so I think the Trump kids most likely had a lot of input. They most likely did watch speeches from women whose husbands won not only the nomination but also the election.
They just didn't think anybody would recognize what they lifted after 8 long years. Well, they were right about their daddy's fans. They weren't right about anyone else.

(9,894 posts)that the Trump kids would do this. Even if there is a massive dose of family dysfunction there, this is a major black eye for the campaign. Of course, if you subscribe to the "trying to lose" theory....

I know how people like that think. Sabotage was never part of it.

(33,384 posts)she got trolled by the speechwriter her husband's crack campaign team picked for the job. She isn't going to research previous speeches; she trusted his campaign not to fuck her over. Bad move.
I get the feeling she did this speech only because she had to - she would much rather have been a simple trophy wife, raise her kid in luxury, and not have to stand in front of millions of people and be ridiculed.

More likely they're a bunch of poorly-paid freshmen lift-writing under deadline and hoping no one figures it out.
