I was thinking how the stagecraft was perfect and the hug was a totally warm touch. But you're right. I'm sure it had some teeth on edge around the country. Oh, f 'em!

to vote on repeal of an old Jim Crow era law that prohibited interracial marriage, to get an odious, old, law off the books.

It was repealed, but by an uncomfortably narrow margin.

There is change, but there's a tendency to overestimate the extent of it.
